I wondered if anyone on here has had an account with Rapidshare? And if so, were they OK?

It's just that since I've had to take my Chelsea clips down from the YouTube site, I've been looking at alternatives. If Rapidshare seem to be OK I'll open an account with them and post my clips there.

All feedback on Rapidshare or any other clip-sharing sites welcome!

BB, I was actually in the process of sorting something out for you on a server, can you give me a few days before you open one somewhere?

I have a rapidshare account, it's very useful. but you need a membership to download an unlimited amount of files, otherwise you can only download one file and then you have to wait a couple hours to download again.

a years membership is about ?40, which is decent value IMO...

I have link to a forum where basically all the links are rapidshare and you can download games, films, programmes and programs from. not sure if I can post it here, but if it is wanted I could pm the link. I use it more than torrents now because it's far faster, and you can look at the quality and the feedback as they post screencaps for all their films.

Would that be 50Mb per person or a total 50Mb that you can arrange?

And G4 that link sounds like it could be very useful ...

Right. 50Mb is a fair old size for a video clip, especially the ones you generally get on YouTube. Can't say for sure, but my guess is it would be plenty.

Is an upload limit of 50mb enough?

50mb isn't really big enough. YouTube's size limit is 100mb and/or 10 minutes in length for each clip - and I had to do quite a bit of editing to fit some of the clips in, with some clips having to be uploaded in 3 or 4 parts. Any chance of at least matching the 100mb?

Thanks for your help with this by the way, Mod, much appreciated happy0034.gif

Cheers for that G4 - I think I'll open an account for 3 months or so, see how it goes.

I'd endorse the rapidshare method.

You can make each clip up to 100mb before needing to split it and as far as I can see there is no limit to the amount you can upload.

You can password protect your folders and files if you want to restrict access.

The downside is that it is a bit slow and clunky for people to access the files without a subscription. Premium users can get files very quickly and easily. I certainly thought it was worth the cost of an annual subscription.

Have a look at http://www.putfile.com

It's a free sign up, I'm not sure about file size limits but I use it for any stuff I want to share and it seems OK

PS when I say "I'm not sure......" it means I can't be arsed to go check it out icon_redface.gif

No probs BB, I could actually set it to however big per file needed, but maybe with your quantity of files, its better to upload where its eating other bandwidth.

Cheers mate, can't wait to see the vids again.

also dailymotion and yourfilehost are options if you want them to be like youtube... I mean, viewed online rather than downloaded.

also metacafe.

I have a rapidshare and a megaupload account. Megaupload is definitely better for Bluebeard's needs as the filesize limits are much bigger so the files can be downloaded much more quickly by people with no account.

Excuse my ignorance, but out of all the options mentioned so far, which is likely to be the best?

At first I was hoping to find something that worked in the same way as YouTube, but thinking about it, it would be more beneficial to anyone on CSR to download the files - or would it?

YourFileHost is out - they only accept 25mb files - so it looks as if it's between Rapidshare, megaupload and dailymotion.

I don't know about dailymotion, but I did try that forum G4 mentioned - and thanks for that G4, it's excellent - so have downloaded a fair bit, mostly from rapidshare, which I've found to be usually faster and more reliable than the relatively few files hosted by megaupload.

Size shouldn't be an issue, because you can up/download files split into 100Mb chunks. You could either use a compression tool such as WinRAR, or a very easy to use (and free) avi splitter such as hjsplit.

The Shed End Forum relies on revenue to pay for hosting and upgrades. While we try to keep adverts as unobtrusive as possible, we need to show these to make sure we can stay online and continue to keep the forum running. Over the years costs have become very high.

Could you please allow adverts on this domain by switching it off and whitelisting the website? Some of the advert banners can actually be closed to avoid interference with your experience on The Shed End.

If you don't want to view any adverts while logged in and using your account, consider using the Ad-Free Subscription which is renewable every year. To buy a subscription, log in to your account and click the link under the Newbies forum on the home page.

Cheers now!
