Liam Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 And you thought I was joking with 'Men at Work' Liam You were though. Have to say some fantastic choices by both of you. Clubhappy where is the club?
clubhappy Posted August 10, 2007 Author Posted August 10, 2007 Liam, its a late bar in Tallaght called Blu Bar. Lovely venue. Started tonight at 10.00 , kicked off with early 90's , ABC, Soft Cell , Undertones , Clash , Big Country , Duran, Kagagooo, ets etc anything that was big from 79 up to 89 . Was going brilliant until i had to get involved in the GIRLIE hits , which in all fairness got a massive reaction but a monkey could put that together. A couple of cd's piled with cheesy 80's hits and your away. A typical example of what were dealing with here , a guy , table full of about 15 mates , asks for Erasure , no bother , then asks for Yazoo , again no bother , followed by Japan ''Quiet Life '' , to me thats a real 80's buzz . Great feedback until i get verbals from a group of women . Its common knowledge that females dictate the flow of music at any venue , its the way of the Club scene really , if the chics leave , your f***ed. Decent night overall , and i got to play ''Ant music '' and nobody noticed .
bjd Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Some great stuff there Ian. And Whitesnake! I look forward to going to the Blu Bar again. Heres a few more 80s toons for you to maybe throw in: Jane Wieldin - Rush Hour (MY ALL TIME FAV POP SONG!) The Blow Monkeys - Digging Your Scene Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday INXS - Burn For You The Lotus Eaters - The First Picture Of You OMD - If You Leave The Psychedelic Furs - The Ghost In You Scarlet Fantastic - No Memory Japan - Life In Tokyo The Icicle Works - Love Is A Wonderful Colour The Cure - Lets Go To Bed Westworld - Sonic Boom Boy Animotion - Obessesion Depeche Mode - Everyrthing Counts and... Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Love Missile F1-11 !!!!!!

loz Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Bowie 'Ashes to Ashes' is an all time masterpiece of music - for me utterly timeless. I confess to being a Bowie obsessive and so selecting my favourite Bowie track is no trvial matter! However for a long long time it has been 'Ashes to Ashes' All sounds a bit melancholy I know (remembr I am also a massive Smiths fan) but the first time I heard the I?ve never done good things I?ve never done bad things I never did anything out of the blue part of the song I must have been about 12 and like a sad kid on a wet Tuesday I moved the needle on the record back time and time again to listen to it umpteen times over. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r44OFO-MNPo
Backbiter Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Any 80s set list should have some Replacements and some H?sker D?.
clubhappy Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Jesus Bluebeard , youve just given me next weeks set Nice. Tonight went a bit like this , remember this is before the handbag heads came in . Started at 9.00 , busy enough and a few BIG 80's drinkers sitting around. Cars and Girls ...Prefab Sprout [ A little gem ] Old Town....Phil Lynott [ Superb ] Never can say goodbye ....Communards [ 1 Of the best covers ever] Somewhere in my heart....Aztec Camera One step beyond....Madness Living on the celing.....Blamange Girls on film....Duran Duran Lean on me......Red Box Its a miracle.....Culture Club Rip it up....Orange juice Are friends electric....Tubeway Army Sexy Girl....Glen Frey Modern love......Classic 80's Bowie De do do do ....The Police I dont wanna be a hero....Johnny hates Jazz Hold me now...Thompson Twins Golden Brown...Stranglers Two Tribes.....Frankie Real gone kid.....Deacon Blue What mekes it work is the fact im not depending on keeping a dancefloor busy so its random hits without the pressure of making a certain section of the crowd in a party buzz and getting complaints such as ''We cant dance to that crap. Great requests coming all night , unusual some of them but thats the gig and our intention is to try play music not associated with a club.
Liam Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Living on the celing.....Blamange Absolutely love it. Great choice. Bluebeard's list is incredible.
