I'm not so sure about Maldini winning "Best Defender" but other than that I think the choices were good. But to be honest I actually thought that Reina would win "Best Goalkeeper". Could the injury have given Cech an advantage?

Kaka for "Best Forward" and "Best Player" was correct. I would have liked to see Drogba win it but Kaka was great last season, thought perhaps not in the final.

One thing that I wondered about is whether Kaka and Ronaldo isn't more midfielders than forwards?

And why, oh why, wasn't Essien nominated? Was it because they didn't know if he's a midfielder or a defender?

they always do it like that- the winner of the CL will get most of it's key players into the side. cech is the exception, I guess, because without buffon there honestly isn't any credible competition.
