Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma.

Reports emanating from Portugal claim Chelsea are ready to table a bid for the skilful wide-man.

The 24-year-old is thought to be considering his future at Porto and could be interested in a move away to a top club.

Porto are facing a fight to keep hold of their star players following their expulsion from next season's UEFA Champions League.

The news has alerted the likes of Chelsea, Internazionale and Real Madrid to Quaresma's possible availability this summer.

Porto president Jorge Pinto da Costa has warned any interested club that it will take a bid of 30m euros (£24million) to buy the Portuguese international.

"Those who are interested must pay his £30 million buy-out clause," said da Costa.

if we do sign him,Scolari should be our new manager!

You seem to be really sure about Scolari... You also seem to want him.

I don't know too much about this Quaresma guy. He seems skilled. Would like to have someone on the left side with flair this post-Robben era has been sad for many 346.gif . He also might have his ankles made out of...err..human and not glass.

Sorry to detour from the topic - but I wonder

Would getting Scolari be key to keeping our Portuguese contingent (and also keeping them away from Jose) - Ricardo, Paulo and bringing in Quaresma?

He seems a good player, caused us a few problems in Porto a year or so again.

But if we pay 30 million for him i think my patience will finally snap with the powers that be at Chelsea.

Very skillfull, fast, decent cross on him and would be a really good player for us. BUT he does have a habit of spending as much time rolling on the floor as he does standing up and with the prem being very physical he could be another drogba/robben diver.

There isn't any reason why this guy can't stay on his feet as he is a very strong player and with a strict manager keeping him in line, he could be just what we need on the left/ or right.

He was regarded as more talented than Ronaldo when playing together for Lisbon. Skillful, fast and good crosser of ball. But you might want to have a touch coach to deal with his attitude. He is supposed to be a big game player but has tendency to drift in and out of games over season.

I don't think chelsea can get him for less than £20 million. We failed when tried sign him due to get out clause of £20 million.

Initially nicknamed Mustang by former Sporting Clube de Portugal coach Laszlo Bölöni, Quaresma is now often referred to as simply Ricky Q. He's regularly compared to fellow Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo for the similarities both possess in terms of their speed and dribbling abilities, as well as their style of play. Despite naturally being a right winger, Quaresma also plays as a left winger, in Porto's 4-3-3 formation.

During the 2002-2003 season he was Sporting's "lone star", coming second in total minutes played (2216), played in 31 matches, and scoring on five occasions. Sporting's poor results during the season were partially attributed to Bölöni, who rarely opted to play Cristiano Ronaldo and Quaresma at the same time.

He was the number one assist provider in that season, but was controversially omitted from Portugal's 2006 FIFA World Cup squad by Luiz Felipe Scolari. Quaresma has also often been criticized by the Portuguese media for his lack of defensive skills, seldom helping the team out in defensive duties.

In a recent interview, Quaresma openly admitted that "it was time to move on" from the club, yet Porto have repeatedly stated they will not listen to offers less than €40 million. Quaresma's contract with Porto runs until 2011.

Well, he looks pretty useful from those clips, both in close quarters and in the open field. But he will never come unless we have a big manager who will match his ambition. There are gonna be plenty of clubs in for him, and we are not as attractive as others right now.

He was regarded as more talented than Ronaldo when playing together for Lisbon. Skillful, fast and good crosser of ball. But you might want to have a touch coach to deal with his attitude. He is supposed to be a big game player but has tendency to drift in and out of games over season.

True, but I think you get that with any winger, really. The crux comes with being able to make those 6-10 game breaking runs a game and unlock the defense with some quick moves.

If he really is petulant and spends the game on the deck, he might not be what were looking for, but keeping in mind that Ronaldo has spent 4 years in England before getting to what he is now, I am not hopeful for an immediate world-beater

He seems a good player, caused us a few problems in Porto a year or so again.

Quoted for f**king truth bjd. Sometimes I wonder if we have any scouting network at all, because we seem incapable of finding other options, and there is no shortage of young talent in the world

has someone taught him how to pass the ball yet?

I believe he knew how to do it all along G4, it's just a question of the right manager convincing him that there's more to his game than being a show pony, kind of like what Jose did with Joe Cole.

it's not that he's a "show pony", because he does produce, but to me he remains very frustrating, and I want to see a chelsea side which can really pass the ball intelligently, and be able to create by changing tempo, making angles and space etc... I don't think the quaresma that I last watched is really a player that conducive to what I personally want to see, and also I don't want us to sign players for the first 11 that could still be seen as "projects" or players that need a lot of work.

im not sure i want him at the bridge. i hate the way he does that turn round and throw your arms up crap he does whenever he loses the ball or gets out muscled. diarra ran him off the ball several times the last time we played him, and every time he threw his arms out and begged the ref for a free kick. it drove me round the bend.

Quaresma is capable of a moment of pure geniality and 1 second later a moment of pure imbecility, and get himself expeled.

There's no Terry, no JM, no one able to control him.

One of his nicknames is "mustang". Figure that one out.

P.S. And he plays on a 1 man team and an object. Thats him and the ball.
