having tried (and spectacularly failed) to get you all to watch arrested development (your loss), I will do so again.

'the wire' is essential viewing for anyone and everyone, it should be shown in schools- jesus it's f*cking amazing, easily eclipses any television show (drama) that I've seen before.

it's just finished and is 5 seasons long, exploring first police and drug dealers, then the death of the american working class, the way political system, schools and the local media, with new elements added each season. it's just finished, and I IMPLORE you- don't deny yourself this.

it's set in contemporary baltimore, and though I'm no fan of 'cop/ detective shows' this is so much more. it's a difficult watch to start as there are loads of characters, but please, please, please find the time. it's as essential viewing as any film you could care to mention, and features superb turns from a couple of brits, notably idris elba as 'stringer' bell, right hand man to the drug lord who essentially runs the city.

read up about it, avoid spoilers, just f*cking watch it. I beg of you- it's written my a former policeman in baltimore and a former journalist, so it also happens to be perhaps the most realistic crime show this side of crimewatch.

p.s. some ofthe criminal tactics were actually copied by real life drug dealers, and the police complained to the producers that also their own methods were being exposed.

unfortunately fx... on sky... not sure if it's concluded over here, but really the best way to watch it would be on dvd (or download) anyway...

it's well worth the money, and when I have some cash I will try to buy all 5 seasons if I can get them cheap, but, certainly try to at least rent the first season.

I've heard good things about The Wire but unfortunately I don't have the time. Only last month I borrowed dvds of another FX show, The Shield. That show has been going on for 6 years now. The Wire is definitely on my "next to watch" list.

Heard that it is very good G4, and Arrested Development, I have only seen a few episodes of, but thought it was genius. The Blue Man Group episode was fantastic

well I would say arrested development is genius, but to fully appreciate it, it also requires you to watch it from the start (lots of self reference and flashback / flash forward jokes), and for most people it's weirdness means it takes a few episodes to adjust. but yeah, arrested development is just about perfect as far as comedy goes. it ruins almost every other sitcom by comparison.

the wire- honestly, aside from being obviously great entertainment, it's far superior to the education system (certainly up to university) in regards to how institutions that serve the public work and affect people, hard drugs, media, the class system, corruption... for most films and music etc when I describe them I'm pretty cautious and reserved - like to keep one foot in both camps just in case someone disagrees (yes, I'm a coward), but for the wire, let me say it's a f*cking masterpiece.

G4, have been meaning to watch this for ages, as everyone I know says exactly the same things about it. ie it takes a while to get into, but is genius.

Anyone got some good links to where I can download it for free? on to a Mac?

no!

(well, yes- I recommend torrents for these seasons- each is 12-13 full hour episodes, so torrents the way to go)

there are codecs floating about to make most vid types work with quicktime.

yeah Colbert's hysterical, as is John Stewart.

The 'then why are you undressing me with your eyes' trailer they show about 10 times an hour still cracks me up.

cant say that i have seen it, but will take a look

i have just started watching a show called miami ink, a fly on the wall documentry about tattooists in america, its on a channel called dmax, on virgin media (dont know if sky or free view have it)

but if you like tattoo's then check it out

Something to look at if ya bored!

Interestingly, they have recently interviewed people who watch CNN and Fox News (joke of a station) and those who watch teh Colbert Report and the Daily show. Not suprisingly, the Daily show and Colbert report people had a broader knowledge of current affairs as opposed to those who watched actal "news" channels

I cant watch FX, but sounds my kind of thing.

However I can get Sky3, and that shows the cop series 'cold case'.

Each episode starts with flashbacks to the murder year, it then comes back to present day and you see the detectives working on the case, then some more flashbacks, and so on...

The flashbacks are directed in different styles, can be very trippy, so if its a 70's murder you get some funky style for the flashback, or 60's and its all psychedelic, the 80's style is all about the camera quick switching between the characters.

It's a really easy porgramme to like and get into.

I still haven't made a start on Arrested Development, but I have been watching The Wire. I watched the first episode of the third season earlier tonight, and I won't exactly be amazed if I watch episode 2 before I crash out.

Brilliant series, every bit as good as The Sopranos.

Colbert report is amazing. and anyone in the states, you have to watch reno 9111 that'sthe funniest show ever in my opinion. And when extras used to be on HBO that was a great show too.

Having failed to find decent torrents for Season One of The Wire, as i'm too cheap to buy it on DVD (also never really see the point anyway, as I would only ever watch it once), I have now managed to scavenge the entire Seasons 1 and 2 of Dexter.

Currently i'm 3 episodes into the first series and liking it a LOT. Very dark at times, and it is odd to find yourself liking a serial killer, but well worth watching if it continues to be this good.

That's my weeknights sorted for a couple of weeks....

No, I did try and sort one out recently, but....got a bit confused by the whole thing, to be honest.

sad but true.
