We can today announce this season's Chelsea squad numbers, with Franco Di Santo taking the number 9 shirt.

The Argentine forward is one of three new faces in the first team squad, and replaces Steve Sidwell as number 9, following the midfielder's move to Aston Villa last month.

Elsewhere, José Bosingwa takes the number 17 jersey, and Scott Sinclair moves to number 16.

As previously reported Deco has taken the number 20 from Paulo Ferreira due to his academy using the number, and the defender changes to 19.

Those are the only changes from last season, and you can now buy your favourite player's shirt from the online megastore.

The full squad list is below.

1 Petr Cech

2 Branislav Ivanovic

3 Ashley Cole

5 Michael Essien

6 Ricardo Carvalho

7 Andriy Shevchenko

8 Frank Lampard

9 Franco Di Santo

10 Joe Cole

11 Didier Drogba

12 John Mikel Obi

13 Michael Ballack

14 Claudio Pizarro

15 Florent Malouda

16 Scott Sinclair

17 José Bosingwa

18 Wayne Bridge

19 Paulo Ferreira

21 Salomon Kalou

23 Carlo Cudicini

24 Shaun Wright-Phillips

finally a number 9 has been give to a striker.

Yeah, even if Boula or Sidwell had turned out to be mustard, it is the quintessential strikers number, so was just plain wrong to give it to them.

Let's hope Franco repays the faith!

looking on the official site and the squad numbers are up. ivanovic is 2, deco 20 and no number 9 yet. but i heard elsewhere that di santo will be no.9. firstly , does anyone know if hes been given the no.9, and secondly does that bode well for the season for di santo. if hes our no.9 will he get plenty of game time.

bugger, just seen a thread is up in general about this. sorry, ignore this, nothing to see here, carry on.....

Could this mean Robinho is not coming? The only available numbers under 40 at the moment are 4, 22, 25, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 34, 36, 37 and 38. Number 4 was good enough for Gullit, but for some reason I can't see Robinho wearing the number. I don't even consider givin him #25 should he sign for us.

Just noticed Rhys Taylor has been given #30. Does he have a future at the club? I mean, Hilario is #40.

Well...looking at the days on which we'll be playing in the Premiership, you'd think we were playing in a Sunday League, so give Kenyon a call! :D

Great to see the club have shown faith in Di Santo and given him the 9 shirt and suprised to see Sinclair's 17 given to Bosingwa - is that cause Bosingwa wanted it or Scott wanted a different one, i'm probably reading to much into it but i hope its not just to make bosingwa happy.

lets just hope he's given the chance to wear it regular

and maybe just maybe he to can become a chelsea great like some of the other guys that have worn it before him

Sorry did somebody say something..............

nope, no-one said anything. move along....
