It did buy you elite when those players moved. Anderson moved form Newcastle to Nottingham Forest for £35m two years ago. Having been part of the team that just staved off relegation last season he has now moved to Man City for £116m. Its a market economy, that's what happens. In order for us to fund this purchase it means that a number of players have to be about to go out to balance the books unless this lot fck that up as well. It is worth laying out £117m if it means we see the back of Gusto, Badiashile, Disasi and hopefully Garnacho

Its funny, I equate 120 million to being a Bale/ Ronaldo messi/ Neymar/ Mbappe type player. 120 million should by you elite, fully fledged player, not someone who two and half seasons ago was plying his trade in the championship. His arrivals just taints the departures of guys like chalobah who would bleed for this club. We could finish mid table every year just promoting from our academy... yet we have just dropped an small islands worth of GDP on a Rogers. The money doesn't really concern me. Over priced PL premium for sure. Can't comment on the cash washing as Villa haven't signed anyone from us yet - be interesting if that happens. The main comparison is someone like Semenyo who went for £64M. Am sure wages play a role in this also, bit like Guehi. Happy with this. Two footed, physical, technical, determined. No idea what formation we'll be playing, but quality options with J Pedro, Palmer, Estevao and Rogers. Excited for Quenda, Satpaev (in time). Could see us keeping Gittens around. Unsure about the rest - think they all have a price here.

This is the one! If you remember when PSG came sniffing around Neymar Barcelona put some random arbitrary figure of £200m believing no team would ever pay that. Then when PSG said 'Ok, £200m, we'll pay that' then Barcelona tried to go to court to get the transfer cancelled.
