  1. I read somewhere that when Tommy Doc was looking to offload him he tried to pique Bill Shanklys interest TD- he’s a great player. A hundred thousand wouldn’t buy him. BS- Is that right Tommy. And I’m one of them! I only saw Mark Hateley in the flesh once at Pompey and thought he was terrific. For a big fella he could run like a horse.
  2. I saw Manson: The Lost Tapes on ITV last night. Theres been countless documentary’s on the Manson family and I had reservations about the latest offering; lost footage of CM and his followers has been unearthed- thought they might “ pad out” what could have been covered in 15 minutes into an hours programming as is the tendency with so many shows, but it moved at a brisk pace and included interviews with former “ family” members 50 years down the line. Thought it was fascinating. Manson no doubt possessed the same dark charisma as Hitler- how else could he lure followers in, get them to believe he was Jesus Christ reincarnated. and ultimately have them commit horrible murders. Would highly recommend- Part 2 next week
  3. It drove me nuts for years until Sari our lack of pressing. We’d send two players to the ball and the first one wouldn’t even attempt to get a tackle in. Talking of the Tommy Doc team what did you think of Tony Hateley Old Git?
  4. Just a hunch ( I know .... all about his inner workings like everyone else), he bought a football club to raise his profile- less likely to get bumped off or labelled persona non grata by the Kremlin if he had a high profile rather than an anonymous billionaire, no matter how well he gets on with Putin. Since ownership it’s become an important hobby of his ( rich mans trainset, and he has developed affection for the club), less so the last few years ( he’s been pumping serious dough into art) He’s probably taking instruction from Putin to some extent now- if the country doesn’t need you then you don’t need them etc etc. Reiterating, I know sod all, so educated guesswork.
  5. Whatever pressure is being applied now I can only see ramping up. I concur with Strider re the possibility of him not returning to these shores.
  6. Yes your right. Think even Jackie magazine had a Ray Wilkins poster. Looked a bit like an alien when his hair went bless him.
  7. When we win this site is comparatively light of traffic- drop points and the doom mongers surface. The same people who were moaning like sh*t that we hadn’t appointed a manager and the board were officially incompetent ( during the World Cup!)
  8. Pretty boy Chelsea team. Cudicini Scott Minto Steve Wicks David Luiz Cesar Azpillicueta Di Matteo Lampard ( Christine thinks so) Gary Stanley Kerry Gold Casiraghi Ossie Subs- Le Saux, Bill Garner ( sic) Manager- Conte with his hair weave
  9. Ps Above is our old trainer and Norman Medhursts sidekick Jimmy Hendrie in me local last night. ( Glasweigan and a great craic) ps if anyone knows how to spin the picture round I’d be grateful.
  10. Terrific player, but Gianfranco “ Red Rum” Zola was no oil painting. If you combined his teeth, with John Dempsey’s hair and Graham Rix’s ugly mug and feeble body you’d have something out of the chamber of horrors.
  11. It was John Robertson. Thanks Boyne. Ray Stewart used to give it some welly.
  12. Scotland were spoilt for centre backs in the 70s. Holton, Gordon McQueen, Jim Cannon who I thought was very underrated. There was also a time when you had a few prolific penalty takers in the same side- John Wark, Ray Stewart and someone else I can’t think of......
  13. Ally McCoist was a bit of a dish as a young man. Not my type though...
  14. Good shout. Along similar lines Bob the T-Shirt used to sell a Martin Keown ape T-Shirt at his stall on Fulham Broadway. At Woburn Safari Park the monkey on our windscreen attempting to remove the wipers bore a close resemblance to MK. ( Tried squirting soapy water in his face to no avail- he was a real pro)
  15. David Moyes. Another ugly Scottish Footballer. Compared with Davie Dodds he was a poster boy mind.
  16. Along with Davie Dodds and Doug Rougvie. ( not that I’m picking on Jocks Ersk!)
  17. Went there in 82- we only took about 800 as opposed to 5000 ish when I took this photo. Stayed with my mate at his relatives in Blyth. Very dodgy coming out the end.
  18. Always reminds me of Tony Dorigo at Maine Road
  19. Wonder what ever happened to the crest on the East Stand Middle tier? There was also an identical one above the Shed turnstiles. Auctioned off or hanging in Bates’s downstairs toilet?
  20. That pikey camp is still there. Only time I bunked In was the 2001 Cup final v Villa- squeezed in the turnstile with me mate- we all shuffled up on the seats a bit but some bloke got the hump and reported me to a steward about 10 minutes into the game and got escorted out. A lot a seat sharing used to go on in Gate 13 Talking of do what you likeys, anyone noticed in between Clapham Junction and Victoria the small gypsy camp next to the scaffolding yard? ( Culvert Rd Battersea). There’s a wooden hut thing covered in Chelsea posters and flags- the yard is owned by mates of mine the Mills family- big CFC fans- they kip in the hut which is about 10 feet from the railway tracks when they’re in town. Oddly enough it was one the family I bunked through the turnstiles with.
