Too true. Apparently on match days in Stratford you can’t move for rusty white pick ups with no hub caps or road tax.

He’s a preening narcistic excuse merchant, whose sets out his teams against every half decent side they play not to loose ( even at home.) Really dislike the man and his boring football teams.

Also seen Frank Sinclair during my clubbing days- and Jody Morris who always seemed in an advanced state of refreshment. Clocked JT and his partner Toni in Pets at Home in Raynes Park. Between the ages of when I was 9 to 19 ( 75 to 84), we were only in the top tier for 2 years. When your a kid the amount of coverage your club got in Shoot, Match Weekly, MOTD, etc was a big deal, and the sh*ttier we got the less attention we received. It’s easy to get misty eyed looking back-reckon it was a much better laugh in the old days , but don’t miss standing in the pissing rain and watching some of the crap football that got served up.

I get those early 90s Spurs games mixed up. Townsend had a brama in one which led Bobby Campbell I think saying he wouldn’t swap in for another midfielder in the country ( little swipe at Gazza), but BC got moved upstairs in 91 so it might have been 90. Not as versatile as Webby, but Osgood played up front and midfield for us, and occasionally centre half/ sweeper for Southampton.

Played in goal as well Webby. Not while he was playing up front mind!

Soft spot for the Gas, due to a school mate from Bristol who wore me down with his Chic Bates hero worship. Like us, they also had an oval shaped ground due to dog racing. Also look out for Corinthian Casuals results because I played for them.

Yep, remember that. Terrible looking back. What observers of the modern game don’t get is that anything would be sung to wind up the opposition players or fans, and it didn’t mean a lot. Black humour, tongue in cheek, all for a laugh etc. When we have “ Chelsea Rent Boys” sung at us, is anyone really offended? Unless your actually a rent boy that is.....

Embassy Regal were very popular up North. Worked away in the early 90s and they were far and away the most popular brand.

I think we ran 3 specials to Derby as opposed to the normal 1- probably took 6000 up there. Coming back on the train everyone was well pissed off to be out the cup. We were in one of those old BR carriages where the seats face each other drinking whisky and coke- we had a 2 litre bottle each. Remember PJ from Kennington falling asleep holding his bottle- we relieved him of it and necked it ourselves. Went straight on to a disco at our local football club. Happy days indeed.

I think they packed two sections. There was still the no mans land by the corner pilon which a load of them strolled onto about half hour before kick off from memory. Re Chelsea headware, before the Boro final in 97 I met the boys outside the Globe on Baker St for a beer- no ticket meself and bought a blue and white pork pie hat to wear back at the Woodman in Battersea- under scrutiny it turned out to be a Chesterfield FC hat- they lost in the semi v Boro and the surplus stock was sold down south to mugs like me! Hats I’ve worn to Chelsea include blue and white and yellow and green bobble hats sometimes without the bobbles, Deerstalker, Baker Boy, and leather and fur aviator - when it’s cold such as In the Cup v Everton about 13 years ago when it was ....... draughty.

That blue and white segment cap takes me back. Reminds me of the Reubettes ( Sugar Baby Love....!)

I don’t think I’ve ever any pics of that game to this day, except maybe in the home programme straight afterwards. Going back to loosing your mates, countless times over the years I’ve gone up with a group of blokes and come home with another- you meet people you know who’ve come by minibus scrounge a lift back or just fancy a change of company etc etc European jaunts you’d not see people for days ( particularly in the 90s when there was still the novelty factor and you’d go for a few days), where people would go on mad benders....

3 iconic away games in a row. Man City, Pompey, Grimsby. Saw us win the double at Wembley against Portsmouth, but wouldn’t swap the memory for that midweek game all those years back. I was in the side stand where we had half the enclosure and the seats above. Most of Chelsea were behind the goal. Before the game, where our end met the terraced home side, it looked certain as if it was gonna go off, but somehow it didn’t. Lost me mates after the game and got the slow train back on me own- in pre mobile days if you lost your mates you might not see them for the rest of the trip.

Had some bad brakes meself. Into every life a little rain must fall..... Could get things sorted but means me staying overnight in a garage

There’s some good names there. Papa George ( always get him mixed up with Boy George!), still regularly plays the Cavern in Raynes Park for free.

Not sure. Had some great times upstairs over the years- think it varies night by night eg Soul, Jazz, Brazillian, Cuban - mostly DJs sometimes Jam sessions. Theres a good soul/ jazz funk reunion once a month at the Burlington Arm Mayfair.
