I see there’s a Bovril advertisement in the 70s pic. Jimmy Greaves mentions in his book that during his time at Chelsea he had a sponsorship deal with Bovril. Peter Sillet said he was turning the club into a “ laughing stock”- Vintage Blues pictures and film
Good shout with Ron Hockings- almost 2,700 first team games!- Vintage Blues pictures and film
That’s pretty impressive going. Cath’s the obvious one re going to games but Al from Reading run her close until he got ill.- Where will we finish this coming season? And what will be your top 6?
Fine. If you are a serf to PC dogma, ( cultural Marxism), bully for you. Award yourself a gold star. Others however do not buy into it- it’s a free country last time I checked.- Where will we finish this coming season? And what will be your top 6?
It is immediately filtered out, just as sh*t is, so I’m afraid your very wrong there pal. So sorry to have offended your PC sensibilities...... Oh and for the record there’s Jewish blood in me.- Where will we finish this coming season? And what will be your top 6?
Why the shock? It’s not even a racist word. ( y*ddish Language) Their own fans refer to themselves as the y*d army. Grow up- Yellow and red cards for the managers
Who gives a sh*t. Managers quite often used to watch games from up in the stands because they had a better view of the game ( or in the directors box if they felt the need to cosy on up to the chairman) One of my pet hates is the cameras focusing on coaches flapping their arms around and having a go at the fourth official. It’s all for show.- Vintage Blues pictures and film
A lot of my collection I was given to by a mate who went from being Chelsea nuts to couldn’t give a toss. Like others I’ve always been a bit laisse fare about programmes- preferred the fanzines a bit later on- who remembers Bates’s propaganda sheet Bridge News that was sent in the post to members? Along similar lines a mate donated me his soul music collection when he went New Romantic in about 82. No complaints this end! Edit: Who remembers the Supporters Club Branches that sprouted up all over the country, mainly I guess that fans could share lifts, organise coaches etc? In the programmes- probably slightly pre Bates- they used to display a list of wherever they were- new ones that had opened up and so on. There were the obvious like Slough and Basingstoke, and many others scattered across the land....- Vintage Blues pictures and film
My programme collection met a grisly end. When I left home and moved into a flat I gave a couple of boxes of them to a mate to look after- he stuck them in his shed- a few years down the line I moved to somewhere with more storage space- went to retrieve them- mildue had set in. Gutted.....- Where will we finish this coming season? And what will be your top 6?
Man City Liverpool Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal Spurs- Vintage Blues pictures and film
Bout right. The logic was you might get slightly more than a pint if you were lucky. From light and lager I graduated to bottles of Holsten Pils and sometimes Pernod and Black. Was never entirely comfortable with Holsten seeing as they sponsored Spurs- Vintage Blues pictures and film
The only good owl is a light owl, as in light and lager.- Vintage Blues pictures and film

Superb find. Love the greasers/ proto Rockers standing on the fabled West Terrace. Time caosule moment.- Sarriball
I know a couple of Man Utd ST’s and they’re not enthralled with his brand of football. When he was appointed the hierarchy probably gambled that defensive football and his confrontational demeanour would be acceptable provided he won the title. The way things stand they don’t look like upsurping City and the fans have to watch dour football. Be amazed if he’s still in the job come end of season.- Vintage Blues pictures and film
Looks remarkably like the former West Indian batsman Gordon Greenidge- Vintage Blues pictures and film
Nice football! He was as solid as a rock. Tough tackling, rarely gave the ball away, no frills type player. All ways gave his all- The Supporters Club Players of the Year ( especially when we were sh*t), tended to be won by hard working triers like Johnny B.- Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager
The only loyalty in football is from the fans. Managers and players are merely ships in the night. I couldn’t believe the naivety of some fans regarding possibly our greatest ever player Super Frankie when he went to City ( scored against us), and was labelled a turncoat. He’s a professional footballer for .... sake.- Vintage Blues pictures and film
It wasn’t for the faint hearted a trip to Newcastle back then. The natives always seemed drunk on match days for some reason.- Favourite Ever Chelsea Player
That butter wouldn’t melt look. In terms of heroes, can just remember the last days of Osgood- funny how people turned on him a little when he got shipped out to Southampton “ Osgood was good now he’s no good.” Ray Wilkins, Jock Finnistone ( briefly), man mountain Micky Droy ( I think he wasn’t far off international standard and pretty much never lost an aerial dual even against the likes of Joe Jordan) As mentioned by others the spine of our great team of recent years was awesome.- Favourite Ever Chelsea Player
In the wake of the little wizard returning to the Bridge, who is your all time favourite CFC player? I’d say the best player, judged by his contribution over a long period would be Frank Lampard- when did he ever have a bad game? My personal choice, the one who gave me the most happiness, would be Gianfranco himself. Special mention should also go out to Pat Nevin and JT- Next Chelsea Goalkeeper
He’d be overpriced at 5£ never mind 5 million. He’s one of the worst 2 or 3 keepers in the Western Hemisphere. Don’t know too much about the Eastern Hemisphere but I suspect he’d be one of the worst keepers there too. - Vintage Blues pictures and film
