  1. "If he can't make his presence felt in La liga and in the CL, I think he would totally flop if he ever came here." This is more the line I don't get... it makes it sound like La Liga is sub par... when they've produced 5 of the last 6 Champions League champions as well as 2 of the last 6 Runner ups. "He has had 1 decent season in his whole career. 4 league goals in 2 and half years across france and Spain. Really poor for a winger." That's the thing... I've seen him play for Atleti maybe 3/4 times, and don't really see where he should be scoring - as they seem to me to be the best counter attacking team in Europe. They had a fun win today against Barca, but believe their possession was only 27%. They beat Levante with 39% poss, and Betis with 33%. They've only scored 22 in 19 games, but sit 3rd in the table. I'm just not sure how involved in a pure counter 4-4-2 he's supposed to be in scoring. The last 3 they had under 40%. I see 8 men defending in the box for Atleti a lot, but their attacks seem to be more of 2 or 3 .

  3. "Lemar hasn't scored and didn't set up a goal this season after being on the pitch for over 900 minutes. If he can't make his presence felt in La liga and in the CL, I think he would totally flop if he ever came here." Not sure where you're going with this statement. We struggled against the 6th place team in La Liga. Atletico is probably a slightly better team than us right now, and they don't really play in a way that fits him. Not to say he'll be great, but I wouldn't brush him off on how he's done a very good squad.
  4. I would like it just because he's not a fit at Atletico... they play a 4-4-2 a lot, and he's not a center forward, since the bought Felix, I don't think they play with a position for him. Think he'd fit well on the right side here; of a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 as a back up trying to prove himself, he has a good strike from range and is left footed. If this is a loan to buy. He at least would bring a few things we don't have. Could see a nice situation with James overlapping him, with defenders having to fear the left footed shot from distance. Also seems like a prime candidate to get better as he hasn't played as much on the right side, but it'd be a fairly natural fit as a left footed winger.
  5. If you had to pick one player in Blue to have to fill all 10 spots it has to be James!
  6. "I don't follow football outside the EPL and would be interested tt know how Sarri is faring at the Old Lady, are they taking to his methods?" It's funny he plays more of a 4-3-1-2 there - Their best line up is Ronaldo paired with Higuain and Dybala playing under them. "Who else is there though? What else can Lampard do, first half team is the strongest team we have." 4-3-3 ; Pulisic - Abraham - Mount/Willian, Kovacic - Jorginho - Kante. "I dont think Frank is being stubborn about Willian, atm Willian is our most consistent and best attacking player." Willian has 4 goals in 15 premier league starts, 1 of which was taking a penalty (Jorginho is fine there), Pulisic has 5 in 11 starts. "Hazard saved Sarri multiple times last season. I struggle to see how you have come to the conclusion that we would be better with Sarri when he doesn't have Hazard to rely on." Hazard had the best season of his career under Sarri last year, give Sarri credit for opening up the field for Eden, which is what need s to be done more for Pulisic and Abraham. He also had Morata leading the line, and Abraham has shown true quality. "Last 4 matches we have collected 7 points, scored 5 goals and conceded 4 goals. Won away at Tottenham and Arsenal and lost to Southampton and drew Brighton." That's because Frank is turning us by personal into a team frontal attack is best suited for counter attacking, Mount and Willian don't function in tight games. "After the first 2 games of the season, I bet 95% of us would take a 4th spot comes 1/1/2020. Mistakes have been made, lessons have learnt, but progress is there and Lampard has met the expectation ." It's easy to say sure we'll take the 4th spot.... but. We're basically what ManU was under Mourinho last year. 6. Manchester United 20, +9, 35. We aren't 4th because we've done well, we're 4th because the point total required to be 4th this year is really low. We were +22 in GD at this time right now we are shockingly only +7.
  7. Mount isn't ready for his role. I'm all for seeing him less. Think we'd be better off as a team seeing Pedro more, but it seems that ship has sailed. Starting to get sick of Willian throwing a fit when Abraham shoots and doesn't score. Sarri didn't really rate Christensen or Giroud, so I don't think that's an issue. I don't think it's fair to say if he was reluctant or not to use youth after 1 year. His priority last year was getting a system down. He integrated CHO and RLC into it. I do think it's fair to question if Abraham would have gotten the chance. But I still argue take last years team, and swap Pulisici/Abraham for Hazard/Morata, and we are better this year with Pulisic/Abraham. While Sarri was criticized for being stubborn, I see Frank being stubborn about the Willian / Mount combo - and it's obvious the work poorly in Franks system against bottom half teams, Mount offers nothing against bottom table teams. His technique is poor and his vision is poor, he does well pressing against teams better than us.
  8. Frank's got a serious weakness, and that's obvious, at this point in the year I think we'd have 10 points more with Sarri - Sarri was great against bottom half table teams. Frank's 4-2-3-1 with Mount in the middle is terrible against lower half teams, Mount plays with fire in his belly but no technique, he just doesn't open things up. Willian has always struggled to against lower sides as he needs room to run... but Frank constantly starts both together in tighter to allow overlapping backs. This doesn't suit either.
  9. Really have to start wondering about his lack of a plan in the attacking 3rd. We have way too much trouble against a poor teams. Does Frank only know how to counter?
  10. Our left side was awesome today... still think Mount is too loose with the ball, and Azpi, had a few beautiful switches to him that he received with space, only to cut them back... The 3-4-2-1 would suit James/ Alonso well IMO, and I'd rotate Azpi in the back 3 with Rudi, Tomori and Zouma. The change today obviously flustered Mourinho and the Spurs... but for it to take more affect than a surprise gimmick against a coach that wants to overprepare for his opponent we need to maintain more technical quality.
  11. "We've been playing Sarriball for a while now. Early on we were much more direct. To be fair Frank has fielded us 4-3-3 which is not optimal against a deep sitting opponent." 4-3-3 main benefit is against deep sitting teams. That's why Barcelona has been a 4-3-3 team for so long, we don't play with our Wide players wide enough, we are pinching them in to much for overlapping backs, Pulisic isn't wide enough and Mount is too wide and they end up on top of each other. I see us playing a 4-2-3-1 much more than a 4-3-3. "Sarri left a sinking ship let's be honest, so how are we underperforming? All of our senior players were underperforming last season and now they're a year older. A looming transfer ban and losing our best player who used to pretty much win us about 30 points a season on his own. You really expected us to get top 4 before the start of the season? Reaaaalllllyyyyyyyyy? " Not at the beginning of our season... but once I rated Tammy Abraham, I think last years team with Pulisic / Abraham, is better than with Hazard / Morata. Throw in Jorginho, Kovacic, and Kante had a year of experience in the midfield. I'd be shocked if Sarri didn't leave because he felt he would have unfair expectations with the transfer ban... even Frank basically made them commit in contract to lower expectations... but the boys we brought in, were probably just as important as what we would have bought. I don't think we would have addressed our 9 in a better way than Tammy. I may be the only one... but I'd prefer Tammy with Higuain compared to Giroud / Bats
  12. It's hard to call 5 for 5 a coincidence, when our team is 4-2-6 in the premier league matches Emerson starts. It's fairly shocking 14 points in 12 games with Emerson, and 15 in 5 with Alonso. While Alonso has had some easier matches, Bournemouth, WH, AV, and Everton are his last 4.
  13. I think quite the opposite; I think we are way underperforming what we'd be if Sarri were still here, while we sit 4th, we still have 2 left vs Tottenham and Arsenal. We had 1 loss last year against bottom half teams. Mount is not technical enough to be a 10 in a 4-2-3-1 at this level, his first touch is too loose and he gets in other players way, he's always looking to leave his space as it's too tight for him. To me he's been so bad the last few games I think we would have performed better playing with 10, and unclogging that space. We gave up a 39 goals / in 38 games in the premier league last year, with Alonso, Luiz, Rudiger , Azpi and Kepa as our core. Frank has had all of those players at his disposal, he doesn't rate Alonso and let Luiz walk, yet we've been much much worse, having given up 25 in 17 matches. Now instead of complaing of Luiz and Alonso, people complain of Kepa and Azpi, no less than a year later. Under Sarri, they were our saving graces. Maybe it's the style of play and organization. And maybe Frank should rate technique a little higher and grit a little lower. Truth be told we should be able to improve on last year's defensive performance as Sarri tried to open it up and play at Man City.
  14. And most of the other guys, I think Frank / Morris have an attachment to the academy boys that they don't have with Pulisic. Just like Pulisic's transfer value was inflated due to the American market, his opportunity is a little suppressed due to not being an Academy guy. To be fair though, I don't think it's bad in Frank's position to favor an Academy player over even a superior non academy player, the youth club needs to show the end product to keep being developed.
  15. He just loses guys visually all of the time in the box. You don't see him checking his shoulders much. Compare that to our manager:
  16. Zouma just is too slow of thought, and doesn't check his shoulder enough. Zouma had the easiest play to stop it , but didn't.
  17. Willian's playing well... but not well enough that he should be an automatic entry, he's a starting rotation guy IMO.
  18. He may not be playing well enough, but there are many players not playing near well enough to that have got more opportunity. Barkley sticks out. The lineup I'd like to see the most right now (with Kante, RLC, Emerson etc out): Pulisic Abrham CHO Mount Jorginho Kovacic Alonso Tomori Christensen James I'd also love to see a match with Jorginho paired with Gilmour, we'd be very hard to take the ball from.
  19. Would have been better off adding Pulisic than Giroud for Zouma, keep the same set up, but move Willian out wide and Azpi back. Valencia was struggling with guys that ran at them with the ball, Pulisic can and Giroud can't. Willian looked good until the final hit due to this, caused issues running at the defense with the ball.
  20. He needs to get better at half time... that is clear. By my quick count it is 11-4 in our opponents favor after half, today's substitutions were poor imo.
  21. My thought was always the loan army had something to do with FFP... if we stockpile players we can sell off when we need to we can go all in some year in the transfer market. As long as the loan army holds value, could we not sell it off one year to maintain a net zero on a larger transfer?
  22. Well last year he had Kante almost the whole year on his side, the year before he was in a back 3.
  23. the way I look at it, we have 5 or 6 players better than him at getting the ball at the top of the box on the left cutting it in and firing the back post shot, we have no one better than him on the right hand side of picking a ball taking a touch and firing in service form the line.
  24. I'm not sure about this ... I think he may be better on the right. He gets a nice yard to get in a cross, but I still haven't seen the power on his shot to see a real gain by him cutting it back on his right foot coming from the left.
  25. Don't sleep on Kovacic... seems the player Lampard could influence in a positive way the most. Kovacic passes are just to simple, always passes to the guy nearest him, will take some dribble chances but never long range chances by pass or shot. Watch videos of Lampard checking his shoulder, Kovacic starts looking for more next level plays he could be very very good. All the technique and athleticism to be great, great work ethic, just needs a bit of an attackers mentallity.
