Daves playing really well at LB although I expect to see Ash back there I think he'll be playing a lot of games in that position, I don't think because he is a RB it should be an insult to Bertrand that he gets in ahead of him, at this stage hes a far better player, would it be an insult to Lamaprd, Essien or Mikel if, as a lot suggest Luiz played midfield? Players have to be played on form and on how they adapt to the managers instructions, Ivan like Oscar has pnly had one really poor game and will be hard to shift, Azpi is now giving the manager a tough decision the other side. It is odd how two players playing in positons not of their choice have been so good, quality players whos versatility makes them even more valuable.

We can only both guess mate to be fair, I liked some of the things he done here early on and I think Tottenham look pretty well organised more often than not, I know if I had the choice between the possibility of Boas improving in the Job or again employing someone like Harry I'd be giving him time to get the players hes brought in properly adapted to the league and maybe let him bring one or two more in.

I think hes a decent manager and his time here for me isn't easy to equate as his agenda when he came in was to make changes, those changes he went about in a bit of a bull in a china shop manner but I think they were to impress on the owner that he was really setting about to change the way the team had been playing for years, as for stubborn? he likely learned that from his time with Jose who is a master of it, not always a bad thing especially if given time the stubborn aproach is proven to bring rewards. The Bale money looked to me to have been spent wisely, its too early to say it hasn't and the players he bought are still adjusting to the pace of the premiership, some players slot right in and some take a full season but Soldado has looked nothing like the player he can be, Erikson looks a good buy although still not right and look at the progress of Townsend. I won't slag of the man because he failed here as I think the agenda he was given and the lack of respect from the players made his Job very difficult, again he could as Jose could this time have come in and kept the team playing the same way with reasonable results but he knew and Jose knows that thats not enough, Robbie tried that and even with what he achieved we still had to put up with the Interim until we got a proper Manager in. So for me and to answer Zolas question I think yes, AVB is a decent tactician and with belief in his system and the right squad he will do well, what has to be taken into account is how much tougher the premier league has become, no easy games at all and top four is between eight or so teams instead of having to break up the domination of two. Losing to City the way they did could easily happen to any side with a bad start and it was the least one sided 6-0 drubbing I've ever witnessed, the players got up for the game yesterday and a 2-2 at home to UTD is not a bad result off the back of that defeat, if he gets sacked Tottenham deserve to stay a mid table team.

I think Tottenham would be mad to get rid of AVB, ok he doesn't react well to critisism, he's not perfect but what manager is? we've got the best in the business and people dig him out for plenty of decisions and a draw or a loss and the same old crap gets said that it has time and time again with every manager we've had,including AVB. The media are quick to try to stir things up and if I was a Tottenham fan I'd be more interested in the way the team play than what the press want to say about the manager, a bad result at city and some striker problems that we are hardly in a good position to point out are not reasons to get rid of a decent young manager in his second season and as I've said before, I don't know who realistically they could get in that would be an improvement.

So another three points in the bag against a well organised team and second place in the league...any fears of Jose and his pride not allowing Mata to start should have been laid to rest as Jose praised his input after the game and he looked to be attacking with his usual flair while defending as well as anyone including Jose could ask of him, for me he has added that to his game and it might work out well that he will be fresher than most at this stage of the season. The insistance of playing Brana at RB was again vindicated and its hard to argue the LB slot with the way Daves been playing. Torres is now looking like hes worth almost half what we paid for him, Ba is scoring off the bench and Eto'o was looking sharp before the injury. The defense is pretty solid and Frank didn't start today. I think the title of this thread is a bit harsh, for me he is getting things right and although its painful at times when he doesn't play our personal favourites, I think we should all be happy enough with the way things are going. I think more credit to the manager is in order, he might be a stubborn bugger but hes getting a response from players who look like they really want to play for him.

Torres is improving and had a good game, seems making a chance for Ba in his limited time on the field was easy enough. Southampton are a well organised team and for me that second half performance was up there with the first half of the Hull game, one of the best of the season.

I think picking Essien out for his performance is really searching for a negative on a good day, he's not anywhere near match sharp, made an un-Essien like mistake in 13 seconds purely because of that and had a bit of a dive, other than that he was ok and even had a couple of nice touches and runs into the box in good positions. The fact is he's now going to be part of our CL squad means gradually sharpening him up isn't the worst idea, he may never be the tank he was but I thought today and the early cup game he played he done ok. If Mata had have had a bad game today people would have said its because he isn't match sharp...some context wouldn't go a miss.

Ramires for me, back to usual after the Basel nightmare, great performances from Ivan and Mata who looks to have listened to Jose and got his defensive duties sussed. No bad performances out there and I include Essien who I'll excuse the lapse as it was the first 13 seconds of proper Football hes had for quite a while. Great second half performance, perfect use of the squad and I'd give the Manager full credit for that result today after an early setback.
