  1. Hi guys, Hopefully the pictures I took from the East Stand sometime in the 1980's will download this time. I think the game may have ended 3-2 to Chelsea but I can't remember-any ideas
  2. Sorry guys can't seem to download the pictures tonight
  3. Came across this photo I took from the East Stand sometime in the 80's
  4. Only went away to Wolves once Just before Christmas the season after we went up. We won 3-1 and I remember a side gate being kicked in and loads of Chelsea fans pouring in except the very last one who got smacked by a copper. There was a lot of us that day
  5. As a rather wet behind the ears teen, I phoned up the Man City ticket office while our away ban was in force. I told the guy on the other end of the phone in my nicest telephone voice that I was a Chelsea fan and not a hooligan and that I really wanted to see the game. He totally surprised me by agreeing to send me a ticket if I put a check in the post. Even more surprising, was that he must have sent the ticket out immediately as a day or so later it dropped through my letter box. Anyway for those of us old enough to remember , we got hammered 6-2 and there could not have been more then a few dozen Chelsea fans doted around the ground to celebrate when we pulled the game back to 2 all. To say it was a miserable end to the day was an understatement, made worse by the fact that I had to wait up there until my overnight national Express coach departed at 11pm. I ended up going to the cinema to watch the war movie A Bridge to Far which was showing at the time. I have to say that I have always had a little soft spot for City because of that one act of kindness shown to me by the club when I was just a young lad . It's funny but now years later this fond memory came flooding back to me as City scored that late late winner against QPR on the last day of the season to win the title and of course deny their rivals another title win of there own. And so there was just a little more joy in that for me. I would be interested to know if any other of you guys on this forum made it to that game as it must have been one of our worse away followings ever
  6. My first Chelsea game was away to Portsmouth who were my local club when I was growing up (these days I live just down the road from Brighton's Amex stadium). it was an evening midweek game and would have been around 1975. I was taken by my next door neighbour who was a Pompey fan and we stood in the lower terrace of the south Stand. The game ended in a draw and I remember our keeper making a fantastic full stretch save at one point. After the game we walked down Fratton Road and I remember being pulled out of the way by my neighbour as what seemed like hundreds of Chelsea fans ran past intent on mayhem . My first game at the Bridge was also a night game against Pompey and I think we beat them 2-0. I went on my own and sat in the East Stand but after that I vowed that from then on I would stand in the Shed
  7. I missed that Game as it was an early kick off on Boxing day and there were no trains running up from the south coast that morning. I did hitch to London with a Portsmouth Fan who was going to Gillingham but we arrived in London too late for our game. By then however, trains were running down to Kent and I went and watched the Portsmouth match with my mate which kicked off later in the afternoon
  8. I used to travel up from Chichester with a gang of Lads from Bognor. They were a good crowd and they all seemed to work for the Old Lec refrigeration company which was based there. We always headed for the Worlds End Pub to watch the lunchtime football on the old TV up on the wall. At the Ground, we mostly stood in the Middle of the Shed and it was to me absolutely brilliant to be part of such a crowd of kindred spirits on those Saturday afternoons. The first time I sat on the benches was when West Ham came in the Shed early one Christmas in the late 70's. There were hardly any Chelsea in the Shed at the time and I just heard someone shout "Their in". All hell broke lose and I legged it with everyone else. I unfortunately ran onto the end of a punch and went down like a sack of spuds. Some Guy picked me up-I don't know who it was to this day as it all happened so fast. Then in a daze I made my way into the West stand where I spent the rest of the game. I remember the West Ham mob were then hemmed into the corner of the Shed by the police as more and more Chelsea fans arrived for the game. Eventually the Police took the West ham down and onto the pitch. As they were being escorted to the away end, they all turned and charged back at the Shed again. This time however The Shed enders came down to meet them and they failed to get back in. I remember my pride being shattered after this game for a long time. I had never seen the Shed being taken until that point at it had always seemed a safe and happy place for me to be. I often wonder what happened to those lads I used to travel up with on those know long ago days of my late teens
  9. My best memory was Chelsea 4 Liverpool 2 in the late 70's The atmosphere that day was fantastic and at one stage I remember the entire stadium including the Liverpool fans singing You'll never walk alone in unison. I was up the Shed again a few weeks later when when we beat them in the league 3-1. I also remember going to the Anfield earlier in the season and the bus in front of mine being bricked by Liverpool fans who were then chased off down the road. The great comeback against Bolton (4-3 after being 3-0 down until the last 20 minutes) is another fine memory. Afterwards a large group of us were singing our heads off down the kings road when all of a sudden we had our own police escort. The old bill seemed to come out of nowhere. This was how I spent my late teenage years and I would not have had it any other way
  10. I missed that Boxing day game at Arsenal as it was an early kick off and there were no trains running up to London from the south coast that morning. I hitch hiked up and arrived in London just as the game finished. I seem to remember the Gooners won 3-1. I was back for our next game (which I think might have been the day after) and was in the Shed when the West Ham mob stormed in well before kick off. I ended up on the benches in the old West Stand.
  11. Me too. After the game I was on the pitch and dug a small bit of the turf. I had it growing in the window of my front room in an old Blue Band Marg pot for a few years
