Vintage Blues pictures and film
77/78 was my favourite season from those days. I was also at the Norwich game and it was the only Anglo Scottish cup game I ever attended. it was as dismal a Saturday afternoon at the Bridge as I can ever remember.I too had been on the Pitch after the Hull game at the end of the previous season and this was a big come down from that wonderful day. Talking of the Hull match and the pitch invasion, I dug up a small square of the turf that day with my metal comb (which had a sharpened edge which was fashionable at the time), took it home and planted it in an old Blueband marg pot. I then placed it on a window ledge where it remained happily growing for a number of years after. One game I did miss in 77 was the early season midweek home game against Birmingham when we won 2-1 ( I think). I was up in the highlands on the banks of the river Tummel that night and hiding from an awful rainstorm while at the same time helping to erect a folding caravan. I had my trusty radio with me and all I was interested in was the match commentary from the Bridge all those hundreds of miles away in London. While everyone else in my family was soaked and pretty fed up that night, I was delighted by a Chelsea victory and didn't give a monkeys. Great memories

7. The Future (2008 - ?)
By the way no need to apologise for disagreeing as healthy debate is a good thing and we all have the clubs best interest at heart

7. The Future (2008 - ?)
Yes me too, but it is interesting that the council seem to now think that there could be a solution to the club staying with an increased capacity.

7. The Future (2008 - ?)
I don't feel that it is beyond the ability of top architects to be able to design a larger capacity Stadium on the Stamford Bridge site. Certainly there would be planning issues, but with imagination I am sure that they could be overcome. More Space could be found by demolishing the hotel etc. and also building over the top of the bordering railway lines. This may be a bit pricey but it would be a case of protecting the clubs history and at the same time building for the future.

Yes I agree, there is something very special about Stamford Bridge that is more than just about the history of Chelsea Football club. It's also a part of the life and history of each and every one of us Chelsea fans who stood on it's terraces over the decades through thick and thin.I know it no longer looks like it did back in the days of the old Shed, but it is still our sacred and spiritual home. I will never forget the old Stadium as it was in my youth, nor the adrenalin rush that used to surge through me when I climbed those steps up into the Shed on many a Saturday afternoon and I could never contemplate Chelsea Football Club moving anywhere else. Lets work to make it bigger and keep Chelsea Football club at the Bridge for future generations to enjoy

The true cost of the East stand.
I obtained a glossy leaflet in the early 70's from the club entitled The Chelsea Blueprint. It was basically the plans with illustrations of the proposed new Stamford Bridge . The new east Stand was to be stage one of these plans. I don't believe the club were wrong to have had such ambition because had the stadium redevelopment been realized, it would have been years ahead of it's time. The problem was that after building work had begun, there was a prolonged building strike of around 18 months which delayed the East stands completion. The effect of this was that the project ended up costing a great deal more then had been predicted from the outset. Don't forget that this was happening at a time when inflation was running out of control. .

Chelsea V Sheffield Wednesday AGAIN

part of a chelsea mob helping out others ?
I arrived at Stamford Bridge to be told that our game against Burnley in the FA cup had been rained off and so with hundreds of other ended up going to the Arsenal v Wolves game. The police were telling us that that game was also off, but we knew that was untrue as Highbury was the only ground in those days in London with under pitch heating and they were never postponed. Travel on the tube with a load of Chelsea fans who were from Wales (and by the way they were awful singers). Anyway when we arrived we ended up in the conner of the Clock End. The Wolves fans were near to the centre of the clock end and some of us (myself included) went over and had a chat with them. Both sets of fans were cheering on Wolves although it did not do them much good as they lost and if I remember correctly Malcolm Macdonald scored. Anyway later that evening we were shown of match of the Day twirling our scarves (I think we were singing We all agree super Chelsea are magic or something). The commentator mentioned us going on about visitors from Chelsea. A few days later I was in the Shed for our re-arranged game with Burnley and yes we really did cheer when Burnley finally pulled a goal

Chelsea V Sheffield Wednesday AGAIN
it was a rare match for me in the stands-perhaps I had a tax rebate at the time or something lol.Close enough to Batesy to have got him with an electric cattle prod -well he did want to electrocute us with his electrified fence at one time and was only thwarted by the GLC as I remember

Chelsea V Sheffield Wednesday AGAIN
I might have another one of the Shed from that game, but i will need to look it out as it was not with the ones I've posted when I came across them. I took the picture with my pride and joy at the time which was my cannon SLR camera. I only risked taking it to the Bridge that day because for once I was not going to be in the shed and it was not in danger of being totalled in the crush. The only other photos I have are more recent with the advent of the camera phone

scariest ground
Yes I was at that game and remember having to fight to get onto the terraces in the first place. I also remember being outside before the game and the police were using horses to filter the crowd through to the turnstiles. The problem was that as the open area was on a bit of a slop,e we were being pushed down and almost under the horses hooves. I remember the police thought this highly amusing. After the game when we came out the whole road was packed with Chelsea heading for that tiny and totally inadiquit train station. I have no idea how many we took that day but it was pretty impressive
