Thank you Watsamata. I knew Balague would address this rumor if it has indeed made the rounds. Say what you will about Balague but he does talk to Torres directly. I have noticed that when Torres and his camp want to set the record straight about something they go through Balague's twitter. That way Torres doesn't have to address the media directly and keeps the crap out of his site. What I found amusing and typical is the twitterer who asked the question is a LFC fan. 1) Thought they didn't care about him anymore? 2) Even after Balague's answer that it's not true Torres regrets leaving Liverpool, the guy tweets that he believes Torres regrets leaving anyway.

If you know anything about Torres you know this rumor is worthless. If there's an issue it may be because he may feel like he's not being used correctly. Which is the case if you know what his strengths and weaknesses are. But I highly doubt he wants to go back to Spain as a failure. And where would he go? Barca don't want him. Real Madrid is a non-starter. Atletico just bought Falcao and aren't in the CL. He didn't want to stay in Liverpool, why the hell would he join a non-CL side in Spain? The Champions League is everything to Torres and it's one of the biggest reasons he joined Chelsea. Why would he leave now? And you think he would lobby Mata hard to join Chelsea only to leave early? Finally, Torres as a striker is made for the PL. He'll only leave after giving Chelsea a very good try, not after 6 or 12 months.

I was just recalling his history, not advocating him for penalty duty. I wouldn't. He should only take them if no one else is available.

So would you change your tune if you found out that January 8th or 9th interview by People was fake? Just as fake as the interview he recently "did" with the Swedish paper? Well, guess what, it was fake. He didn't do that interview and didn't say those words. Somehow, I don't see Liverpool fans letting up on Torres.... It's not that you hate him, it's the unremitting vitriol. It's kinda deranged. Just look at John Aldridge. Have some dignity.

Torres took penalties for Atletico and even once in awhile for Spain, but he's not taken them in four years now. I think he went through a bad patch and lost his nerve. Think it'll be Mata. Every single goal Torres has scored since joining the PL has been from open play.

Exactly. Love their fiddling with the facts. Didn't they claim Saurez was brought in to play with Torres (but the prick skipped out on them)? So how can that 62M include Saurez?

You would think London would be a far more attractive location to be than Manchester. But guess with the money the players are getting, they can jet off to any destination within Europe for a day at the beach or shopping and it would be the equivalent of a taxi ride for them. Never been to Manchester, have been to London...but a world city versus a provincial one?

Oh, I didn't want to forget to say Aguero is a great talent who is less likely to flop because he has his head screwed on straight. This guy is serious about football and he will not be messing up his career. All I can hope is that he finds the PL's physicality difficult to adjust. But even that I think is only a faint flicker of hope. Silva is tiny and he's cutting up the league now.

Plus Torres is a different striker from Kun. Torres had to take on creator and wing duties against Stoke but he's best as a number 9. He should be compared to Dzeko more than anyone. Hmmmm...would Torres be happy with Aguero on his side and Silva slightly behind him? I think so. Half his goals would be tap ins. Silva alone has more creativity and guile than Chelsea's entire midfield.

Well, he wasn't the worst player but out of Mikel, Ramires, yes, Lampard was 3rd. Something is very wrong when Torres is creating for others and has to create for himself. Didn't see one decent ball for him to run onto and score. Had to come down deep and wide to even get the ball. It's hard to score from those positions but good for him, he got the ball and often moved it up well. Carlo dropped Drogba, AVB has dropped Drogba. It really seems Lampard is the sacred cow for Chelsea.

If you're that easily swayed, then you deserve it.

I think it's a combination of all of the above plus the media have an overriding desire to knock people off their pedestals. It's what sells papers. Torres was built up so much when he was at Liverpool. When he had the temerity to do something ordinary footballers do all the time--leave for another club, somehow it was 1000 times worse because it was the golden boy Torres. Nevermind that he had also walked out on his boyhood club but hey that's not much of a story for the English press. It was in Madrid, who cares. Rooney's a bit of a trailer park trash boy so he doesn't have far to fall. Bringing down Torres and having him free fall a long, long way is a much better story. And it looks like the media feels like he hasn't fallen enough. There was a reader comment recently which put it clearly; it's not enough for Torres to fail, his reputation and the remaining parts of his career must be destroyed. It's a vulture culture. It just so happens to serve and be embraced by a media heavily weighed with scousers. They'll ride this story into history because no one will ever forget how Fernando Torres victimized LFC.

Torres is a Nike guy and has been signed to them since 15 or 16. Adidas sponsors Chelsea, Liverpool and Spain. On an individual level, Torres wouldn't piss on Adidas if it was on fire. He did an event and a press conference today probably because it was his turn. All the other big stars had already done so--Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech along with Brana, Ferreria and Kalou. I agree there is probably some effort on Chelsea's part to keep the heat off of Torres but I don't think he spoke to the media today because of Adidas. He wears their stuff because of the team but they wouldn't influence him like they would with an Adidas guy. The companies are very clear about this stuff like this.

Yes, he was injured at the WC and the only reason he was there was because it was the World Cup and he is Fernando Torres. If it was the Confed Cup, he wouldn't have been there. I disagree with the indifferent form assessment though. He scored 9 in his last 7 games and carried LFC into the EL semi-finals. They bowed out to Atletico Madrid (ironically) without his scoring. I think he scored 3 consecutive home braces his final month before his knee injury. He actually was returning to his best while recovering from the first knee injury in January. Knowing now that Liverpool missed out on 4th, I'm sure Torres wishes he hadn't rushed back for the team that season. It ruined his WC and possibly has affected his form thereafter. Also as a Milan fan, I hate seeing things like "another Sheva" and such...The man was a great, great player and should only not be remembered as Roman's folly. I fear the same will happen to Torres and it would be so undeserving. Both were so much fun to watch in their best form. I hope Torres will return to his best. I'd be heartbroken to not watch him being brilliant again.

Torres played 3 1/2 seasons for Liverpool. Aldridge, two. It's like he has to outhate everyone to keep up his Liverpoo cred. It's just so, like, high school, you know? And he can't say Torres' name but he keeps talking ABOUT him anyway? Representing Liverpool nation well.

Yes, you could see Malouda knew it too--by the smile and shrug he gave Torres. All is forgiven when you score, but 9 times out of 10, that should have been pass back to Torres for a tap-in. And Torres deserved it too since he started the sequence. The annoying thing is it's been happening for pretty much the entire time Torres has been at Chelsea. Yes, his form has been poor for many games, but if more of those 1-2s had been completed the last two months, we wouldn't have had to wait 14 games for the goal. Malouda is a winger who wants to score more than he provides. The goals are handy but think how much more productive he would be if he was setting up Drogba, Anelka and Torres all game long.

While it's true, Nando isn't suited to the current 4-3-3 system, it's a system built around two players who will be 34 next season. Along with those two players, there are important players like Anelka and Malouda who are also in their 30's. Whether or not Torres was signed, Chelsea was going to have to bring in younger players anyway. Or do people expect Drogba and Lampard to be the PRIMARY players for Chelsea when they're in their mid-late 30's? So bringing in Torres in January has resulted in an awkward transition but it's a transition that was going to happen. Bring in a creative midfielder and a winger or two and Chelsea will be tactically more versatile.

He's not one for the big show, a clap and wave is usually what you'll see from him. Watch his post-match interview, he acknowledges the fans' great support and noted that he was more anxious for them rather than himself. His interview was very classy. He also gave all the credit to his teammates. interview
