A few weeks ago a friend borrowed me an album from a band i'd never heard of, that band was the Gaslight Anthem and the album titled " The '59 Sound."

From the moment the first track started and the up-tempo and catchy beat hit my ears i was captivated and continued to listen to the album all the way through, over and over again, it's an album up there with one of the best i've heard in recent times.

Strangely for a modern album you don't find yourself skipping tracks you don't like because every song is equally as good as the others, musically and lyrically i'd push to say it's genius.

I'd fully reccomend anyone to download or buy this album and give it a listen, i'd compare it to a cross between Bruce Springsteen and The Killers , its kind of bluesy punk rock

Song's i'd reccomend if i had to reccomend would be:

"The '59 Sound," "High Lonesome" "Great Expectations" and "The Backseat"

Give it a listen, and let me know what you think

we've had it on in the car the last few times we've been out anywhere, never seem to get bored of listening to it, would be a great listen during the summer with the windows down and a nice breeze

Thanks for the recommendation. Never heard of them but I'll give them a listen.

Great Expectations is on the computer as I type - big resemblance to the Boss, whose music I've loved for over 30 years. (I'm a Napster subscriber, so I've not found an online 'free download')

Right - 4 songs in and I've discovered they're playing 50 miles from me on 5th Feb in Bristol, at the academy 2. If my wife or mates will join me I'll be going!

I've liked what I've heard so far and I noticed they're playing at my local club next month. It's on a sunday night, though, so I'm not sure if I'll go.

Old White Lincoln is on now - very like the Replacements, another band I'm a huge fan of, but also very Springsteeny.

Now you're talking.

Always been a fan of Westerberg but just got into the band proper last year. 'Tim' is magnificent and i currently have 'Let It Be' on heavy rotation on my iphone.

will check out these gaslight boys too.

Will check those our Byatt, was just saying the other day I haven't discovered any decent new music lately, thanks for that.

EDIT: Am downloading from iTunes as we speak, the 30 second demos sound great. Also thanks for the cover art, Scott, made it a lot easier to find.

Anything that resembles Bruce Springsteen has got to be good. AS soon as I have the Internet back, I'll get it from iTunes.

Just off to brave the snow and ice to see their gig in Brizzle. At 10 quid a ticket for 3 bands you can't go wrong, even if you do get charged 5.50 for coming back into Wales.

I just downloaded the album tonight and started listening to it while browsing the internet. Suddenly the sound went out in my headphones - the album had ended.

I actually listened through the entire album and hardly realized it. :o

It's a really good one, that's for sure. Gonna listen to it again...and again and again and again :D

Thanks, Byatt, for telling about it ;)

Just back from the show. Absolutely outstanding! Would go again tomorrow.

They played every song off 'The '59 sound', plus a few of their debut and a couple off their EP.

As The Moos says, hats off to byatt for the recommendation - hugely appreciated!
