sexelk Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Can't think of a better one anyway. Anyone else think so? End to end stuff for 90 mins. Some easy chances missed but 6 fantastic goals (and a pen, and a goal ruled out for offside which was a good 3 yards onside) Forlans has to be the pick of the bunch. Incredible strike. Well deserved win for Athletico Barca could do so much better than Victor Valdes though. He is a clown
Maksimov Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I didn't see the Atletico vs. Barca match, but our 4-2(5-4 on aggregate) win against Barca in UCL was one of the most thrilling matches I've ever seen.
blizeH Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I didn't see the Atletico vs. Barca match, but our 4-2(5-4 on aggregate) win against Barca in UCL was one of the most thrilling matches I've ever seen. +1, got the DVD for my dad at Christmas, best game ever :) Bring back those days!! Didn't see the game either last night, but sounds like a cracker
sexelk Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Was thinking of the chels - barca game as one of the best but it's not a patch on the arse of the one last night 2 of the goals were preceded by awful misses at the other end less than a minute before Hate Barca too so it was that little bit sweeter
Virosh Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) I didn't see that game, but to me the best game I have ever seen was last season's 4-4 home draw with Villa. Now that match had EVERYTHING you could ask for in football: a team coming from behind, late goals, drama, red cards, penalties, goals scored in every possible way, goalline clearences, football legens shining. I just seriously can't think of anything that game didn't have. In terms of the importance of outcome and pressure, though, it has to be ours against Barca. My stomach was curled up in a ball so big, I could have had a heart attack when JT scored. Amazing game ! Edited March 2, 2009 by Virosh
sexelk Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 i mean purely in football terms which is why i consider it better than the chels - barca game. i missed the villa 4-4 :)
g3.7 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 our 4-2 was better- a higher standard of football from both sides, and at the time we were the top two sides in the world.
sexelk Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 our 4-2 was better- a higher standard of football from both sides, and at the time we were the top two sides in the world. not for me, far more chances than our 4-2. some easy chances missed but pure quality in the build up to them
Benji Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 our 4-2 was better- a higher standard of football from both sides, and at the time we were the top two sides in the world. Yeah I have to say that game has to be one of the best i've seen. The Ath v Barca game was great but i still don't think it was a good as our 4-2 game vs Barca.
g3.7 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 not for me, far more chances than our 4-2. some easy chances missed but pure quality in the build up to them the quality of the play all over the pitch was better... arguably less chances... arguably, but better defending, better atmosphere, bigger game, players on both sides in the form of their life. you get a game like this in la liga a a couple of times a season, you get a game like chelsea-barcelona once every few years.
TheWestwayWonder Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) I watched the last quarter hour of Atleti-Barca, and it was a real barnburner of a game, no doubt. We were discussing it in the Rumors section under the Aguero thread. His winning goal was (along with some help from Careless Puyol) a beauty. And I havent seen that kind of heart from a player celebrating with fans in a long time. That said, the defense was absolutely non existent. And the stakes for this game, compared to us against Barca, was not even close. Even from neutrals, or haters of either team, that it defined 'instant classic' Hilarious to think that people were talking about Barca as a record setting side for the ages a few months ago. Most goals in recent memory, huge goal differential, all that, and now their 12 pt lead is 4. I am no friend of Real Madrid's, but after seeing Barca against Espanyol a week ago, I hope they go down in flames. Edited March 3, 2009 by TheWestwayWonder
coco Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 not for me, far more chances than our 4-2. some easy chances missed but pure quality in the build up to them easy chances missed ? and you said it was pure quality ? <_<
sexelk Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 easy chances missed ? and you said it was pure quality ? some easy chances missed but pure quality in the build up to them clearly i said in the build up to them  what was your reason for posting that?
Phillip Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 The first half of the Lyon-Barca match last week was brilliant. Benzema is a genius, and Juninho's free kick goal was stupendous. Too bad the second half did not match up to the first half.

sexelk Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 g4 said the Chels v barca game was a 'higher standard', you said 'not for me' and, ok thats fair enough, but if the athletico game was of such a high standard, how come they missed the sitters ? i cant remember any sitters being missed in the chelsea v barca game ? exactly lol. no where near as many great chances created in the chels - barca game off the top of my head... gudjohnsen clean through from xavi etoo clean through from gudjohnsen forlan header from 5 yards just 3 of the many great chances. on another day for the finishers both teams could have reached double figures don't know about you but i find end to end and loads of chances to be better football than great defending. not all the chances came about from great football (many did) but neither did they in the chels - barca game. our 4th goal was a header from a corner (and a massive foul on the keeper)
g3.7 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 there were plenty of chances in our game, the only difference was that there was much less comedy defending.
