CARLO ANCELOTTI rang Carlos Tevez on holiday to beg him: Come and join me at Chelsea.

Tevez, in Buenos Aires, was shocked to hear from the new Stamford Bridge chief.

But the striker was also impressed that the Blues boss had called him personally on Sunday night. As a result, Chelsea, not Manchester City, are favourites to steal his signature.

A source close to the Argie national team said: "Carlos was stunned to get the call from Ancelotti but also very pleased.

"Ancelotti did a great job selling the move and Carlos was impressed."

Tevez was relaxing after last week's World Cup games. Ancelotti had got hold of his mobile phone number from the player's former national team-mate Hernan Crespo.

Ancelotti also asked Crespo to ring Tevez to help persuade him to move to West London.

Former Blues ace Crespo did this and told him what Ancelotti could do for his career.

Chelsea must now come up with the £26million the player's agent and co-owner Kia Joorabchian wants for the 25-year-old.

The news will not please Manchester United as Tevez is contracted to them as part of their £6m two-year loan deal until the end of this month.

Yet they can hardly have any complaints after dragging their feet over offering the fans' favourite any kind of permanent deal.

Cheers Crespo, if we got him for 26m i think that's a good deal plus still a chance of us signing Aguero + Villa.. i'm sure Roman like hes said loads of times before if it's a special player he'd be willing to fork out more money for them.

Is this supposed to be true? Do you have a source? Makes for a funny read, but I think its a bit too far-fetched to be true.

Sounds pretty farfetched, frankly. Man City would be the perfect move for him, as he doesn't have to move his family and he's close to his best friends Evra and Park, plus he gets to start every week. At Chelsea, he would have no mates, no guaranteed starting place.

i'd rather have aguero....

Aguero is a big name signing, Roman will open the cheque book for both an Aguero is friends with Tevez. What if he's been told Aguero is coming and they would pair up plus Manchester City i'm sure he has a winning mentality and he knows he won't win sh*t at City. Two argentinians please lol.

Tevez? No thanks :)

fully agree. i honestly dont see whats so wonderful about him. to me hes a very good player but not anything special. he does a lot of running about, fair enough. but i prefer my striker to be where the goals are scored more often than chasing a ball back to left back.

The thing with Tevez is he plays as a second striker and his tireless running and willingness to track back is a highly commendable quality, sure he wasn't prolific at Manure, but he did score some important goals and I'm sure he could go on to be a 20+ goals a season player if played regularly.

I like Tevez, I like his workrate and I think he is a skillful player who if played regularly as a second striker would score a fair ammount of goals while also making sure his partner up front had an easier time.

I thought we should have gone in for him before he went to West Ham, before he went to Man U and certainly now he has proved he fits in with Premiership Football.

If he was partnered with Aguero as our main strikeforce I would feel we had improved a bit while helping with the overall age of the Squad,

I agree. We need a striker that will hassle the defenders throughout the game and be whereever he feels he'll be useful. Would be a good signing if you ask me.

id prefer a striker that scores goals a lot more often than tevez does. of course i like strikers hassling defenders but ive never been fond of ones who track all the way back to our defence. its counter productive and means he will be out of position when the ball does get forward.

Fair argument, but like others have said, I'm sure he has the ability to score 20+ goals a season with a regular starting place. Like at Corinthians, he scored 31 goals in 53 appearances overall for them. Not bad going at all tbh.

Chelsea signing Tevez is like sloppy seconds. The best is Aguero. If Abramovich wants his club Chelsea to be the best, then he needs to get the best - Aguero will be massive talent in a few years !!

And he'll be even better playing alongside Tevez. Why does everyone assume it's one player or the other rather than both of them?

if you mean by next year, then maybe, but I think people recognize that the free spending ways are at an end.

If we are looking at two 25+ million players in one summer I would be elated, but I just cant see that happening (especially when someone like Aguero would be more like 45million)

I think we can realistically expect, this summer:

1 big splash + 2-3 complimentary players

but now that Carvalho wants out, that might be more

Like what Chippy says ;)

For someone who's just seen chelsea are favs to land tevez with the bookies now.

tevez and aguero wouldn't work together. they are too similar. it has to 1 or the other and they have to have drog or anelka beside them

i'd take aguero

Absolutely spot on Chippy with regard to Tevez.

A class act who scores important goals as well.

What not a lot of people remember is the little fella won South American player of the year three years on the bounce before he signed for West Ham. Throw in I believe the Argentine Sportsman of the year, which footballers rarely achieve, his upbringing, the scar that from a child could have affected him in the future.

We have signed some players in the past, without looking into their background, without looking at their mental strength as well as their ability.

You know what you get with Tevez and you get it in abundance.
