Can anyone who has seen Interview With a Vampire tell me whether it's worth buying?

Maybe not worth buying, but certainly worth watching.

I mean, a younger Tom Cruise sucking on Brad Pitt..............

Need I say more?

:)

Strange to relate, Moosie, that does NOT turn me on!

I'll have to watch a decent Horrer film to get that out of my head..

The Missus just watched the new Sherlock Holmes..she loved it, I was packaging stuff for Ebay so never took a lot of notice.

Talking of vampires, I've yet to see Let the Right One In, but I've been told it's one of the best vampire movies of the recent years.

Its not

Well, it hasn't got much competition, has it?

Truth be told, it is a wonderful movie, but it's not like it's action packed and filled to the brim with blood. It is more deep and emotional, kinda.

Not too many, I guess. I haven't seen them, but I understand the Twilight movies are sappy teen nonsense, 30 Days of Night has a good premise, but apparently the movie is just a mess. Are there others? True Blood seems to be a popular series, but it seems a bit silly, to be honest. Dead Snow? That's a comedy, right? Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I've seen any of the recent vampire movies.

I couldn't really name a good action packed vampire movie. The first Blade was so terrible that I was shocked that they decided to make more of them and even more shocked that Guillermo del Toro directed one of them.

"Dead Snow" is about zombies, but it is a comedy. Quite funny as well. It's a bit like a norwegian version of "Shaun of the Dead", though not as good.

"Twilight" is rubbish. It's like low class horror for scared 14 year old girls who think a moody Robert Pattinson is cute. Absolute rubbish. I mean, the vampires in these movies sparkle in the sun......f*ck me....

"30 days of night" wasn't bad. Could have been alot better though. Not sure I like the movies idea of vampires. But Ben Foster is in it and I think he's a good actor.

"True Blood" is great. I love that show. A bit more truthful to the vampire myth than let's say "Twilight". Not sure if I'd call it silly, but perhaps it's a bit silly. It certainly doesn't shy away from having some fun. Certainly worth to see if you ask me, though it might take a few episodes to get used to.

Seen two movies these last two days and both have been really good.

First I saw "Five Minutes of Heaven" with Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt. I didn't know anything about the movie but more or less watched it because I like Neeson and Nesbitt (I wanna see the latter in some bigger films).

The movie is about two men who are about to meet for the first time in over 30 years. Last time they met was in Belfast (I think) when one of them was out to kill a young catholic man. He's witnessed by a young kid who turns out to be the murdered mans little brother.

That young killer and the even younger kid is now older and are about to confront eachother. It's all set up by a tv crew. Both have lived different lives and have had their lives shaped by their last meeting.

Neeson and Nesbitt are great.

The movie is well worth watching.

The other one I saw was "Shutter Island". Scorseses new movie is about two detectives who has to go to Boston's Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital (a place for the criminaly insane) where a patient has disappeared.

I think that is about as much as I care to write about the movie because there's so many things going on and I don't want to spoil anything. Besides, if I tried to write more then I would probably confuse myself.

All I can say is that even though the movie at time made me wonder what on earth was going on, it's still a great movie. Scorsese seldom makes a bad movie and while this might not be his best, it's certainly one of his perhaps top-5 or so.

The cast is quite excellent. Just look at these names:

Leonardo DiCaprio

Mark Ruffalo

Max von Sydow

Ben Kingsley

Patricia Clarkson

Michelle Williams

Emily Mortimer

Ted Levine

Jackie Earle Haley

They are all perfect for their parts and they all play them close to perfection. DiCaprio just loves to work for Scorsese and is great yet again. The rest as well (even if some don't appear that often on screen).

It's just over 2 hours long, which shouldn't be a problem. The thing is that one in the Scorsese-crew didn't quite reach the right level. Thelma Schoonmaker who usually is great at editing Scorseses movies really screws up on this one. The movie lacks a bit of flow and some editing isn't good enough.

Still, the rest is excellent so the editing doesn't ruin the movie.

Definitely worth watching ::clap2::

I went to see Shutter Island last night and I thought it was OK, but certainly nothing special. The actors all do a good job and the cinematography is pretty solid...mostly practical but not spectacular. Music (mostly) fits the mood in most scenes, but I thought the music at the beginning(when they arrive on the island) was overly dramatic and I almost laughed out loud because of it. I thought editing was alright, definitely not as bad as Moos makes it out to be. To me the biggest disappointment was some of the poorly done special effects. Especially the ones that were supposed to be subtle(so subtle you shouldn't even notice them), but there were one or two weaker "show piece" special effects moments, one of which was so corny that it spoiled a scene that (up until that) had been one of the rare scenes that managed to get me emotionally involved, but then the ending of the scene spoiled it for me. I don't want to talk about the plot too much so I won't spoil it for those who want to see it, so I'll just say that it was a decent psychological mystery/thriller, but watching it was more a puzzle(trying to figure out the ins and out of it all), than a story that gets you emotionally involved. I felt like I was just observing the scenes, but didn't feel all that immersed in the movie's world and I certainly didn't care very much for the characters even though some of them had had VERY horrible things happen in their lives.

Definitely not amongst Scorsese's best, but I guess it was worth watching once. Some have suggested that it should work really well if you watched it a second time, but there are so many good movies to watch, so I don't think I'll be returning to the Shutter Island any day soon.

Braveheart - aka Scottish history rewritten by Mel Gibson!

I saw Five Minutes of Heaven a few years ago and thought both Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt were very convincing. I'd been interested to know what our irish members thought of it .. Liam, Clubhappy, Goose, Sexelk and ...? Have you seen it? Did you feel it was an accurate portrayal?

I watched Legion the other night..ok in a terminator meets Michael sort of way

Watched Harry Brown last night, pretty violent Michael Caine film in the Gran Torino mould..quite enjoyed it.

had to watch that Percy Jackson Lightning Thief one the other day. STEER.WELL.CLEAR. It's a shocker. Also watched the Sherlock Holmes film, really unimpressed by that one.

I thought that Percy Jackson wasn't all that bad. I've seen worse. It's not great, but it's okay. But truth be told I watched it without expecting much.

i was about 8 when i first saw it and was terrified, saw it the other day and couldnt believe how laughable the shark was.

I know. It's not Avatar-quality on the shark :happy0034:

Still, no matter how bad the quality is I still love that movie. Almost scarier that any modern horror movie.

I had heard that there was no action, and all boring dialogue... was that the problem with the movie, Moos?

There was action, but not alot. And it's not like the action scenes are brilliant and very exciting. They would probably be a bit better if the rest of the movie didn't drag those scenes down so much. The dialogue is abysmal. It's all "I love him. I miss him. I like you, but I love that other guy. Oh, I'm so sad". I've seen depressed emo kids being more cheerful. And they all look like they've lost everything they had and everyone they've ever loved has died. No wonder the youth of today are so f*cked up. When I watched the movie I just wanted to climb through the screen, walk up to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (the fact that I know the actors name sends shivers down my spine), slap them and tell them to cheer the f*ck up! I wish I was a vampire. I would have killed them all.

But I would not have liked to be a vampire in that movie. Glittering in the sunlight. What the hell!?

And seeing Martin Sheen in this movie really is sad. Did he have some daughter or granddaughter who was a fan of the first movie and forced him to be in this one?

Apparently Gus Van Sant might make the next movie (or is it the fourth movie?) and that kinda freaks me out as well. I like him, but if he makes a Twilight movie I might have to rethink that.

What makes this all so much more sad is that I've not seen both Twilight movies and will probably see the rest as well. What the heck is wrong with me?

Strange to relate, Moosie, that does NOT turn me on!

Woman, you are one queer lady!

Whom should suck on whom to make you happy?

Jaws changed modern culture. I lived in a beach community in 1975, and after that movie almost nobody wanted to go in the water. The book was even better...

Moosie: Woman, you are one queer lady!

Well, ME being one of the participants would be a start, Moos!

Talking of vampires, I've yet to see Let the Right One In, but I've been told it's one of the best vampire movies of the recent years.

I loved it. Definitly one of the best movies I have watched in the last months.

The Shining, forgot how good Shelley Duvall is in it.

Yeah, she was great and it is a great movie. Everyone in the cast was great in that one. One of the all time horror classics.
