Saw the remake of Friday The 13th yesterday and this has to be some of the worst glorified Hoolywood film makers have produced in quite a while. What a piece of utter crap. Not recommended!

Totally agree. They are butchering the old cult classics.

Friday the 13th was crap

Halloween was mildly interesting, but still bad.

I really hope the new Nightmare on Elm Street is good, but I don't have that high hopes. Though Jackie Earle Haley might be good as Freddy Krueger.

Getting tired of Hollywood thinking that a good horror movie consists of horny teenagers played by sometimes much older actors who really can't act worth a damn but only have their looks to work with, a bunch of "cool" deaths with massive amounts of blood and guts and then think they can skip something trivial like a "good script".

Not saying the original horror classics like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween were the best written movies of all time, but they're easily miles better than the modern ones.

The only modern horror movies that actually managed to scare me a bit are movies like Pontypool, Paranormal Activities (though not as much as I hoped), The Others and perhaps a couple of french or spanish horror movies.

It's sad when popular horror movies today is Saw and Hostel and popular comedies is movies like "Epic Movie" or "Disaster Movie".

Absolute junk.

The makers of those oldies like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th knew they were making B-movies and didn't try to hide the fact. In many ways they were more honest and actually came up with something original. They may look like generic horror-fluff now, but that wasn't the case back in the day when they were first released. I'm not saying they're masterpieces, mind you, but now the with the re-makes they just try to impress the audience with fancy cinematography, color grading and other tricks to take attention away from how little substance there really is. Sometimes lo-fi is more.

Very, very true. The way I see it the problem is that Hoolywood movies these days are only released to make money. They hire some young good-looking people who's suppose to attract audiences because of their looks and in the Friday the 13th remake case, show off some tits.. Never mind acting-talent or a good story..

I could not have said this better myself

yep :D

I think it's one of the better Stephen King films, but not as good as Shining or Shawshank Redemption. Not having Tom Hanks in them probably helps(not a big fan)! :D

I think Tom Hanks was supposed to play Andy in Shawshank Redemption, but he went on to play Forrest Gump(one of his good performances) instead.

:clap2: you have a very cool taste..all movies you wrote are amazing ; ).

It worked out well in the end :D Forrest Gump also the only movie with Tom Hanks I ever liked. Speaking of Shawshank Redemption, I saw Un Prophete (french) a couple of weeks ago and that movie I really recommend :D

Am I the only person here who didn't like Forrest Gump?

It wasn't bad(a tad over sentimental, though), but it is one of the rare Tom Hanks performances in which he didn't annoy me. The Ladykillers remake and The Terminal are probably his most annoying performances. He's been much better at producing films and television series, though.

I watched the Big Lebowski with my friends last night. An absolute gem of a film.

Do you see what happens when you f**k a stranger in the ass

One of the best films ever made, a girl i know has never seen it and asked me what its about, i was well its about a guy (a dude) with a rug and someone steals it, and it really tyed the room together, then he gets another one and goes bowling a lot and drinks white russians.......doesnt sound too good like that though she thought i was retarded or something .......CLASS FILM

Have you seen "Dolores Claiborne" and "Misery"? Two great Stephen King films. Perhaps not as great as "Shawshank Redemption" (few movies are as good as that one), but not far from it.

I've seen Misery, but that was when it first came out on video, so it's been a while. I think I liked it back then, but I don't remember it all too well. I do remember the scene where Kathy Bates' character goes "a little wild" with the hammer, though. That's one of those scenes that you're bound to remember. It still makes cringe just thinking about it.

I agree completely. It's been many years since I saw Misery and while I do not remember much of the movie (apart from it being great and Kathy Bates being brilliant) that scene is edged into my memory. It's one of those iconic scenes that you can't forget - like the shower scene in Psycho.

Ouch

Ouch :shok:

Another scene that really me cringe was the "curb stomp" scene from American History X. Not sure if it's an iconic scene, but it's the scene I think of when someone mentions the film. I don't think they actually show the kick(at least not very clearly), but I remember I could almost taste the concrete. Not that I've ever tasted concrete, mind you, but that was a really shocking scene when I first saw it.

That was a horrific scene. They actually show very little but you are left in no doubt about the horror unseen (which is what makes the scene better - any half baked film maker can throw some brain and blood around).

Must admit though I think Misery was a decent film and not much more than that.

I watched that last night. If there's one thing I get squeamish about, it's people losing teeth, and I looked away during that scene because I thought they would show the poor black fellow's teeth being splintered and shattered across the pavement. It was a great film otherwise, though.

Yes, that is a very memorable scene. Saw that film at the cinema when it came out and when that "curb stomp" happened I think every one there reacted. It's a truly disgusting scene. I can take someone getting his arm or leg ripped off or his head carved off with a blunt knife, but that scene even makes me cringe. Just writing this makes my teeth hurt.

Great movie by the way. One of my favourites. Edward Norton was absolutely brilliant in it (not the only one he's been brilliant in).

Apparently the kid who plays Edward Norton's character's brother in American History X also played John Connor in Terminator 2. He was also in Detroit Rock City. Huh...
