Last Movie You Watched

I've finally seen a movie that I've been waiting for some time now - "I love you Phillip Morris"!

When I first saw the trailer I expected it to be another very funny Jim Carrey movie.

It wasn't!

This was a funny movie, but more of the sort that inspires light laughs instead of laughing out loud. It took me by surprise at first but as soon as I had accepted that the movie turned out to be really good.

It's based on a true story about a man called Steven Russell (Jim Carrey) who is married to a woman and has a daughter. But he is also gay. After some time he finally breaks free and admits to being gay and starts being one.

Due to his way of living he can't really keep up financialy and becomes a con man.

In the end he is discovered and sent to jail. There he meets Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor) and they fall in love at once.

Frauds, lies, cons etc. ensues.

Nice story (though almost unbelievable), some funny things and a nice tone to the movie.

Carrey and McGregor are really good in this one. Always nice to see Jim Carrey play more dramatic roles (even if this is hardly the most dramatic role he's had).

What was the first one?

Well, it all depends on what you think is funny. "Me, Myself & Irene" made me laugh alot. Other movies with him that made me laugh was "Dumb & Dumber", "The Mask", "Pet Detective" (was that the name?) and probably a few others that I can't remember at the moment.

Sure, he's done crap movies as well, some has been good.

And by "good" I don't mean great acting, great script and all that. I just mean that they were hilarious (though I'm not so sure the movies has aged well).

I can't stand Carrey's "funny" roles. His "funny" movies are just a step up from Adam Sandler's comedies and that is not a compliment. in "Man on the Moon" he uses his "style of comedy" and it actually fits the movie quite well because of the character he plays(Andy Kaufman), but that's still basically a more serious movie, even though it's about a comedian. I think he does a good job in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

Watched a pair of movies recently, part of the "Watch"series

Nightwatch

Daywatch

Its quite good, but not something you can breeze through as its slightly confusing, for me in any case. Make sure your subtitles are well done or get the dubbed version (the original is in Russian).

Pet Detective gets on my nerves. Dumb and Dumber is just inanely stupid. Me, Myself & Irene + The Mask are good however.

Bruce Almighty must come into the mix, he's hilarious in that!

I loved Pet Detective and Dumd & Dumber when they came, but perhaps the comedy in them suited my age group then. Have't seen them in a long, long time so I don't know if I'll like them today.

Saw some bits of Dumb & Dumber a couple of weeks though and the parts I saw wasn't as funny as I remembered.

Bruce Almighty was quite good, but I think the sequel was so bad that it drags the first one down :(

Still, seeing Morgan Freeman as God was gold :D

The sequel to The Mask would have dragged the first one down as well, but luckily the movie didn't get much recognition. Thank God for that.

The Strangers - what a lame ass movie, Liv Tylers character is just plain stupid in it, in fact all of them are stupid. The movie was still kind of creepy but if you seen it/watch it you know what im talking about.

Each to their own (said the monkey as it kissed the ape's arse) - for me Jim Carey is to comedy what Switzerland is to warfare. I actually like him in more serious roles but the moment he steps into a 'comedy' he resorts to making up for the lack of humour by gurning. G4 is funnier.

I'm interested to know what you thought of the Truman Show, which starts off as gurning but turns out to be quite serious.

Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine and Man on the Moon are the clear highlights in a career otherwise packed with dross.

Man on the Moon is one of the best films ever made. Last film i watched was Best of the Best, superbly sh*te martial arts film. Loved it.

That film really freaks me out. It's the whole house invaders thing. With horror's about vampires and monsters I'm fine because they don't exist, but the whole story really freaked me out.

The first 1:10 - scariest part of the movie.

Yeah I agree with you RBJ that it was a real scary movie, but you got to agree with me about the decisions the characters made in the movie.

1st, why would you open the door 4 in the morning when someone knocks on it? I would grab a phone, call the police and be ready with a bat :P

2nd, why would you not call the police straight away when it gets worse?

3rd, why would you go outside when you seen that there are some maniacs with masks staring at your house?

The movie is filled with stupid things you'd never do in such a situation and its supposed to be inspired from an event that actually happened.

Anyway just finished watching The Book of Eli, the movie surprised me and turned out to be really good and it had some neat action scenes in it with Denzel kicking some ass. 8/10 a bit slow paced but the story was good!

I can see your point, but no horror film would be complete without stupid decisions, like my favourite:

When a protagonist walks into a room why do they never a) turn the lights on or b-) shut the door behind them?

If you don't have these stupid decisions, then the film would be over in 10 minutes, we need the stupid moments so we can laugh and look back and say "Ha, those Americans should've closed the door!" :P

Haha yeah, I guess you are right :P

But still, I do agree that there were so many stupid decisions made!!

I watched Back To The Future 2 this morning. Absolutely love this film, one of the greats, my favourite film of all time.

How can it be "not bad" if not much happens? More detail please! Who's in it? What's the plot? What's the genre?

Yeah its just people lying about wasting time and trying to sort out their everyday lives, which they have made rather difficult for themselves.

Mickey Rourke is pretty good in it.
