Romelu Lukaku

Featured Replies

I've been a member for a while now, but I am yet to do my bit of YouTube scouting. So here you go:

Apparently, Chelsea, Milan, Arsenal and Barca are interested in the 16-year old Romelu Lukaku. The youngster, who is considered the new Didier Drogba, made his professional debut for Anderlecht on the 23 May 2009, but already has 14 games (most of them as a sub) and 8 goals under his belt.

Watch these highlights below - the kid not only scores just like Drogs, he looks and acts like him too. I am officially a fan.

Yeah, I read the article on Daily Mail that was talking about him.

The kid sounds phenomenal. Would love to get him as a long term replacement for Drogba.

I've watched him play, and at only 16 years old hes something for the future. Definately an option for replacing drogba.

However hes said that he doesnt want a move just yet, would rather gain some more experience. Fair Enough!

What I really like about this kid is his size and strength. He seems just like Drogba when it comes to his ability to hold defenders off and keep the ball. Looks like a great investment.

He likes Chelsea and his biggest rolemodel is Drogba. Surely we should be able to sign him if we want too?

I did however read that his father (is he also his agent?) does not want him to move yet. I think he wants his son to finish school and wait a couple of years before moving to a bigger club. I think that's wise.

But, maybe we could sign him now and allow him to stay where he is for a few years? Or perhaps get first option on him?

Imagine having Lukaku and Kakuta together :bs_comehereyou:

With Anderlecht not having much money by the European superpower standards a bidding war looks likely. How much will this kid end up going for if Man City and Real Madrid get involved?

It will take something very special to replace Drogba

I agree. Replacing Drogba won't happen overnight with the signing of a new player. He is one of the best, if not the best, player in the world.

I somehow think that Drogba is one of those players who can't be replaced. Now, I'm not saying once he finally drops off the top level, or retires, we won't be able to win games or anything like that. I just think that we'll never find a player exactly like him, with all of his qualities (good and bad). Looking for an identical replacement is the wrong way to go about it.

Players will leave, get old, retire and no longer be able to put in the top performances. Replacing Zola for example, there is no one in the squad who's exactly the same as Zola and no one ever could be. Since then we've changed the style of the squad, the style of play and everything. This is why I see Aguero as the replacement for Drogba. They create in different ways, but both create and score, and both have the potential to be just as brilliant on their day.

I have no idea where I'm going with this. Don't post after you've had a few drinks, and especially not when you're watching The Wire at the same time. Damned attention span.

Ha ha. Very true though. Replacing Drogba won't happen. Putting someone in his spot will happen and style of play will change. Drogba uses great strength and experience to beat defenders. Aguero uses speed and ball skills. Two totally different approaches but they both work. What people don't realize is that Aguero is only going to get better and better. He will be a long term solution for the strikers that are getting older.

Does anyone else feel that the moment a player is crowned the "new so-and-so" they invariably turn out to be mediocre?

Like when Messi was touted as the new Maradonna? Perhaps when Aguero was touted for the same thing? Or Pato the new Ronaldo? ;)
