ARSENAL TO LAUNCH ESSIEN PROTEST Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is ready to complain that Chelsea broke Fifa rules by playing midfielder Michael Essien in a home win over Wolves on November 21. Wolves are also considering their position. Essien scored twice in a 4-0 victory and should the complaint be upheld, the League leaders face a points deduction. Under Fifa regulations Essien was ineligible for the game because he refused to turn up for Ghana’s friendly in Angola the previous Wednesday. At the time, the Ghana FA said they would take action against Essien and absent teammates Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan. All three apologised and each was fined £3,000. Wenger believes Essien should have been suspended for Chelsea’s subsequent Premier League fixture, the 3-0 win at Arsenal. ‘Essien didn’t play for Ghana but he still played against us,’ said Wenger. ‘He was not entitled to do so.’ As the story gained impetus last night, Wenger said: ‘We will investigate to see if there has been a breach of the regulations.’ Chelsea say the matter is a ‘non-issue’ because they have written permission from Ghana’s FA to use Essien. There are doubts, however, about the value of that letter: Muntari’s club, Inter, also received a communication from Ghana’s FA, but were told by the Italian federation that it made no difference and Muntari was left out of the Inter squad to face Bologna. Fred Pappoe, the Ghana association’s vice-president, told The Sunday Times he was unaware any permission had been granted.

if you cant beat us on the pitch then make a pathetic attempt off the pitch. what a horrible w**ker. im sure he has never encouraged any players to miss an international friendly (cough SOL CAMPBELL cough).

That coming from the man who wants compensation from Holland for getting van Persie injured.

This is really too pathetic to criticize. The man just wreaks of self-dillusion and bitterness.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to launch a complaint that Chelsea broke FIFA rules which could sensationally see the Premier League leaders docked points.

Wenger believes Chelsea broke FIFA rules by playing Michael Essien in the 4-0 victory over Wolves on November 21, 2009. Under FIFA regulations Essien, who scored twice in the game, should have been ineligible after he had refused to turn up for Ghana’s friendly with Angola three days before.

The Arsenal manager feels Essien should have been suspended for Chelsea’s next match against the Gunners which the Blues won 3-0. Wolves are also reportedly considering their position.

Wenger said: "Essien didn’t play for Ghana but he still played against us, he was not entitled to do so... We will investigate to see if there has been a breach of the regulations."

Essien missed the international friendly along with team mates Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan. All three were fined after apologizing.

Chelsea have claimed this is a “non issue†as they have written permission from the Ghana FA to have played Essien. However, Inter Milan claimed a similar excuse for playing Sulley Muntari against Bologna on the same day but were refused by the Italian federation.

Oh boy, this is actually sad and beneath the dignity of a manager who has achieved all that he has (or so I thought)

I love the line "We will investigate to see if there has been a breach of the regulations." How about you investigate why your teams have turned into perpetual also-rans the last five years, and then try to fix that?
