Barry Bridges Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Ghana eliminates Nigeria. We get a holding mid back! Tho I will say Deco was looking good palying deep!
jcm28 Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 One problem less for us. Bad thing is he probably won't play against Burney.
rahul Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 One problem less for us. Bad thing is he probably won't play against Burney. I say thats a good thing. :D
bjd Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 One problem less for us. Bad thing is he probably won't play against Burney. Bad thing ? No doubt he will be in there slowing down the play against Hull next week though. Simply cant imagine us playing the type of football we did against Sunderland and Birmingham if he was in the team. Get ready for the defence to start having to defend a lot more free kicks in dangerous positions too.
Virosh Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Ah, nothing like the welcoming mat of The Shed End to make you want to come home faster.
DetroitBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Good. He's back. And anyone who can't see what he offers, watch the City game. When he came on our midfield became stabilized and we were actually able to maintain possession better.

The look at recent matches where we have played without him and performed pretty f**king well IMO. Useful squad player & no more than that.
BlueNose Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 we have played some good football with him in/out the team, people who doubt him should encourage him to get better,i would hate to see us loose a player who is still so young and with so mutch potential. HE WILL COME GOOD (i hope)
Granticus Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 I think Mikel is an excellent player, but it completely depends on what style of play you are going for and who you are playing as to whether he should be in the team. I'd rather have him at the back of a diamond than Deco against Arsenal, for example. Arsenal will cause problems attacking, Birminham aren't that great at it, and even they got their chances. They probably wouldn't have with Mikel in the team. Though I admit that we wouldn't have played so well either.
bjd Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Good. He's back. And anyone who can't see what he offers, watch the City game. When he came on our midfield became stabilized and we were actually able to maintain possession better. Any stability he may bring is soon cancelled out by the amount of free kicks he gives away. He mightve done ok in the city game but there are plenty of examples from the last three years of him being nothing more than a lumbering liabilty. I've nothing against at all honestly, I'm just tired of the 'he is young and will come good' argument. There has been no evidence of improvement whatsoever and I often wonder if I'm watching the same player as some of you. Edited January 29, 2010 by bjd
Barry Bridges Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 I would prefer to see Deco play deep vs Burnley. I think if he gets some time in that position he can really help us breakdown those sides who will park the bus on us.
DetroitBlue Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) The look at recent matches where we have played without him and performed pretty f**king well IMO.Useful squad player & no more than that. Against a Sunderland side lacking Cana and Cattemole in midfield, against a meh Watford side, against lowly Preston, and against a Birmingham side that was all over the place defensively. There's a reason why Mourinho, Grant, Hiddink, Scolari, and now Carlo play him in the big games against the big teams. Do you forget his performance against United in the FA Cup final at age 19 no less? Or how about the one against United when Frank was missing? Or how about Juventus when he kept Del Piero in his pocket? Edited January 29, 2010 by DetroitBlue
mad_mac Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Doesn't he have to stay out there and play Algeria for 3rd spot?
