Happy St George's Day to all you Sassenachs and Rosbifs! from ;) and white_flag_surrender.jpg

A French flag on a St Geroges day thread? Hang your head in shame.

Am I right in thinking they only decided to add red and blue to their national flag in the 50's?

I was born on the 8th of May so my parents called me George, being so close to St George's day.

Every St George's day I thank God that he wasn't called St Susan...

Anyway, CHD: as far as I know, St George - the patron saint of England - was a christian knight who lived two centuries after Jesus, but before the advent of Constantine's Christian Roman Empire (which, I believe was in 324 AD?!) executed by the Roman emperor for standing up for his religion. He also is supposed to have slain a dragon!

He's also the patron saint of a fair few other places, I think Barcelona in fact!
