What I was never sure about that Arsenal penalty was whether Pires touched the ball. If he didn't then shouldn't it have been taken again as City touched the ball before he did.

I'm not sure if that was the case back then, but now you're not allowed to run to the ball and not take the shot immediately. In other words, you can't stop your foot to see where the goalkeeper is diving and put it in the other corner. I guess that's the reason why the ref stopped play rather than let Citeh go on with it.

No, I think it was a freekick to City.
