Ok, not a rumour here, but more of an invitation for discussion (especially with some of our North American members).

Stefan Frei, a 24 year old goalkeeper, who plays for Toronto FC is in his second full season this year, and from casually watching MLS soccer every weekend on the tube, waiting for the real action to begin, this lad has shone in quite a few games (including today's 2-1 win over Chivas USA). There has been rumblings from Toronto fans on forums about his agent pushing to get him back over to Europe (he is Swiss - and second cousin to Swiss captain Alexander Frei), with money of around $3 million being thrown around.

On this front, have any of our MLS followers watched his guy at all, especially in light of our keeping situation, with Hilario not having much longer left in him, and Turnbull being less than convincing so far.

Sadly I don't have any Youtube videos, showing why we should pay £30 million for him, so he might be automatically exempt from being signed by Chelsea on that basis.

I don't think the lack of youtube videos would make him exempt - what might make him exempt is that we would be using up one of our 17 non homegrown squad players for someone who has reached the age of 24 and never played at a level of football which is anywhere near what he might have to play if he was our number two.

Hilario is a much better option for now.

I have never seen Frei perform.

But it's quite obvious he lacks the experience of top class football.

We have a young Croatian keeper, Matej Delac, who is still very young and not quite ready for the big stage.

However, I'd prefer him to Frei.

I didn't know you spelled his name like that, saw him the other night on QI...looked a bit fat to do well in the premiership.

No Buffon, overrated. We should buy Pepe Reina! He accepts being a back-up goalie for Spain, so I don't think he'll have any problems being it for Chelsea..!

I can't begin to describe the kinds of injuries I would give myself laughing at Liverpool if this happened.
