Seems to have been missed but Josh McEachran has been called up to the England under 21`s for their upcoming game against Germany. It really is an incredible rise for a player barely anyone outside of Chelsea had heard of this time last season. Congratulations Josh, hopefully this is the first step towards a full cap.

Brilliant news for the lad. Quite an accolade for someone so young.

Lets hope his development continues at a nice steady pace.

Currently 0-0 with half hour gone. Josh is on the bench and looks certain to make an appearance in the 2nd half. Cork, Mancienne and Bertrand have all started in a vastly changed line up to the one they use in the qualifiers.

1-0 down but now Jason Steele sent off after conceding a pen. Arsenal midfielder Lansbury has gone in goal as Steele was a half time substitution. Oh dear 2-0, don't know when or maybe even if we'll see Josh now.

MCEACHRAN RECEIVES UNDER 21 CALL

Josh McEachran has been drafted into the England Under 21 squad following several withdrawals while Chelsea's three players in the senior England squad are all fit to play midweek. Daniel Sturridge, now on loan at Bolton, is one of the injured players pulling out of the party to take on Italy Under 21s in a friendly on Tuesday. McEachran, who made is Under 21 debut it the closing minutes of November's match against Germany moves up from the Under 19 squad.

Hope he gets a start this time. And whats this Sturridge injury? Seemed fine the other day.

Congrats to the lad, although my opinion of how players get a call up has dropped after looking at the England squad. Lescott? and Kyle Walker? 1 rarely plays and when he does plays awful and the other scored a goal for therefore he gets the nod.

A solid positive after last night. I honestly think he isn't that far away from getting a senior gig. If he keeps progressing and starts to get a little more time I can see him getting at least a call up by this time next season.

Started the match. From what I've seen he is doing well. Pitch is a shocker.

Quite amusing listening to commentary from the Chelsea TV boys Ben Andrews and Jason Cundy. Josh just played a nice ball through for Albrighton and Jason almost came in his pants :D

Still 0-0

I See Josh is in the latest squad along with Bertrand, Cork & Sturridge. Guess we can claim Scott Sinclair too - didn't realise he was still only 21 - seems to have been around for ages!

Brilliant news for Josh, it really has been an incredible rise for him over the last 12 months. Incidentally, any idea if Chalobah is in the under 17`s?

Well all the raving and I have just noticed he hasnt made the U21's squad. Can't believe it and after all the moaning about Wiltshear not wanting to play I dont know why they didnt just get Josh in

After watching the first 23 odd minutes, I find it even more ridiculous. They just can't keep the ball!

Josh might still be young (only 18), but he has already shown just how much potential there is in him and he's done well every time he's played for the first team. I was sure there was a place for him in the U21's squad.

couldn't believe it either...we were outplayed...1-1 flatters us...josh would have got his foot on the ball and given us some possession...on the plus side he will be rested for us...as long as we use him more...anyone think henderson looked a £20m player out there?...me neither

£20m? £2m at a push.

Isn't Josh involved with the under 19s or the under 20s? Otherwise I can't think of any good reason for him not to have been included in the squad.

Looking at last night's game, England were outplayed in much the same way Man U were outplayed by Barcelona. Never mind the result, as The Brit says, the 1-1 scoreline flattered England. Man U and England looked very much second best, outplayed on just about every area of the pitch, made to look like hit and hope merchants by their respective opponents.

England and Spain are apparently joint favourites for the competition. Not on last night's showing they're not.

what depressed me is all this bollox about new generation and new style and here were the young players playing exactly the same way that senior england teams have churned out for years...apparently pearce has been working with them for two weeks in training sessions...clearly not on pass and move, but hit and hope
