Rumours are rife that Andriy Shevchenko could make a sensational return to Stamford Bridge as part of the coaching staff or backroom team as Roman Abramovich continues to shake things up to freshen things up at the club.

Sheva has strong links with both Abramovich and Carlo Ancelotti and is seen as an ideal person to bring into the club. He would bring experience to the Chelsea backroom team and of course would have instant respect from the players.

I personally think this is a good move, anything in addition to the staff we already have there would be an improvement. His relationship with Carlo could also be key as Sheva is already well accustomed to Carlo's training methods.

God almighty, thought it was going to be as a player.....hahaha

Despite the disaster his transfer to Chelsea was, Sheva kept a good attitude and was a complete professional the whole time he was here. It mustve been hard to do because his fall from grace as one of the best strikers in the world was so sudden and so god damn tragic. He was a brilliant player, probably my favorite non Chelsea player, and to have him fail like that crushed me, both for the club and for him.

Given that he handled so well, and is good with Carlo and Roman, I would love this move like you CH. Maybe as a coach he can help enjoy the glory that evaded him here, as a player.

p.s. unrelated to this, but I was thinking the other day about Moscow and "that" game. I never understood then and still today why, when Drogba was sent off, or even before that, Grant never even tried to bring Sheva on. I was wishing, and hoping, that one of the most prolific players in European club history would get a couple of minutes to see if he could get a lucky bounce. We all know he had a cannon for a left foot, and anything couldve happened with the right bounce.

When JT had to take the fifth, and Anelka looked defeated before he even took the seventh, I was just dispondent that the man who had gone through two CL final shootouts, and been the winner in one, was left watching with his track warmups on. Knowing that was like the knife of defeat through the heart being twisted.

Bring him back! Nice fella and the goal against Spuds is enough to warrant a place at Stamford Bridge doing something.

Though, its probably just nonsense talk, I wouldn't take anything as gospel from somewhere called Chelseadaft!

We need an injection of pace and a wide right player... why not bring back SWP while we're at it?

We can also get in Alexei Smertin as midfield cover.

In all seriousness, to get Sheva in as some sort of forwards coach wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. I could name the players from the last ten years who are better than him at finishing on one hand, plus he has some great history with Ancelotti. Maybe if we can get Sheva and Kalou to run into each other really fast we can create some sort of super-striker who will boss the league for years.

I wouldn't have a problem with him coming in as a coach. He was one of the best strikers in the world on his day and I'm sure our youngsters could learn a lot from him.

He always said he wanted raise his kids in an English speaking country so it might not be too far off. I think he'd be best working with the youth team and academy, great player in his prime but needs to develop his confidence as a coach.

I mentioned this the other day in the Following our ex's thread. This is how vitalfootball reported the story:

One Sunday tabloid carries a remarkable suggestion!

It implies that Andriy Shevchenko could be on the verge of a sensational return to Stamford Bridge!

The Ukraine striker, who cost an absolute fortune but failed to live up to expectations during his days here as a player, is being tipped by the tabloid to return to Chelsea as part of Ancelotti`s backroom staff or even as a club official, if anybody quite knows what one of them is!

Naturally, as is always the case, the tabloid has a few quotes to back their article up, with the quotes this time, coming from a friend of Andriy`s in a Ukraine paper, quotes which read,

"For Andriy, Roman Abramovich is just like an elder brother."

"Sheva is an open and honest person, which is why people are attracted by him."

"Abramovich has already had a conversation with him suggesting that after his playing career is over he would like to see him working for Chelsea either as one of the coaches or as an official of the club."

it's all well and good saying we should welcome him back with open arms to coach our flagging forward line

but he's not a coach, never has been, so why would we employ him to do a job he's never done?

Everyone has to start somewhere, i would be happy to see us bring him in to work with the younger players to begin with.
