Bye Bye Roman?

Featured Replies

Maybe its true, wouldn't be that surprised. But I'd hardly expect him to sack longtime Chelsea man Ray Wilkins on the way out, seems to me thats not an indicator of an early exit by ownership.

This is a post from a Cardiff City chat forum from someone who says they know someone with insider knowledge of Roman Abramovich.

I saw this nonsense on twitter by a clear rumor monger. He also tweeted that Carlo had been sacked, or excuse me, that "he was hearing Carlo had been sacked. Thank you and good luck"

So Roman wasnts to give up what he has built here , one of the best teams in the world, for one that is just one of the best teams in Russia, but dont really stand a chance in Europe, and are already owned by a massive company. I would at least be more likely to believe the rumor if it was one of the Moscow teams.

Hope so. Although wouldn't mind swapping RA for Sheik Mansuer.

Roman probably wouldn't mind swapping you for a loyal supporter.

What part of that makes me not a loyal supporter columbo?

May be the 3 league titles, 3 FA Cups a League Cup and a Champions league final appearance aren’t enough for you and you appear slightly ungrateful and want a new owner?

And the shiny new training ground and Academy thats the envy of pretty much every other club. But other than that, what did Roman ever do for us.

So you lot don't want him to spend money on the squad? Which we badly need at the moment & even more so in a years time.

Dzeko, Tevez, Johnson, Balotelli, Silva, would all improve our team at the moment. We get Ramires, Zirkhov, Benayoun. Fine for the squad, but not in the same league as any of those players city have bought.

Yeah I might sound like a spoilt Chelsea fan, considering how much it has changed since I started going, but realistically if we want to keep on competing at the top we either need to have an owner who trusts the manager to do a good job (like at Unt, and to an extent Arsenal) or he needs to back the managers in the transfer market, instead of sacking them.

Have you already forgotten about Drogba, Cech, Essien, etc...?

Yes, yes you do.

No problem with Cech.

Essien & Drogba have been shocking this season. Now the later has maleria to blame for it, how such a high profile player who is exposed to it from time to time has not had the jab for it I find hard to explain. But his performance in Marsielle, along with his age, says to me its time to look for his replacement. He's been superb in his time for us, but can't you see his days are numbered and we don't have anyone close to the quality of him to replace him?

Hmm I think jcm's intention was to state that Roman has bought many long serving players including Essien, Drogba and Cech, who have in general been magnificent during their time here. I think you're on the wrong track with your reading of his comment.

Furthermore I think you are on the wrong track full stop. We're in what I'm gonna call the mature stage of billionaire ownership. The initial spending has been reduced and we're now focused on our long term viability. The kind of spending City are making is akin with our earlier stage before we won the title for the first time.

I think if you're going to be demanding such players then you will be disappointed because we shan't be seeing that kind of spending again under Roman's stewardship.

I don't expect us to sign a plethora of signing every season (although would hope we might make some more suitable signings big priced signing than Ramires & Zirkhov, both have there qualities, but in Yuri's case not an area we were weak in). But the cost cutting this summer has effected our chances of retaining the premiership. Then upsetting the structure of the management compounded our problems.

I would agree with that to some degree. If we are restricting ourselves to one big signing a season, then that's fine but I just hope they are well thought out. I think once Ramires spends a little more time here, he will be a good addition. Yuri I think may have just been unlucky as he was purchased just as Malouda decided to become the world-class winger that we thought we had bought after the WC 2006, and as a consequence he hasn't really had a chance in his best position as yet.

As for the cost-cutting, that is going to be the nature of the game. We've still an enormous wage bill and to get under the new UEFA rules we are going to have to make sure the wages are kept in check. I loved Ballack and thought he never got enough credit on here, but he was a perfect example of the sacrifices that are going to have to be made to satisfy the evil overlord's at UEFA.

From the surface the Wilkins affair seems a debacle, but I have an odd feeling there is more to that story than is in the public domain.

If you're acknowledging that you're spoilt then you should probably shut up.

Roman has worked with a perfect business strategy. Pumping the money initially on new signings to enhance the status of the club to one of the best in the world, while also creating a state of the art academy to generate stars for the future, and in the process to make the club self sustaining in the long run. We might suffer for some time because of his reluctance to fund more high profile signings like he did in the beginning, but in the long run it is going to be good for the club.

And its not like he hasnt funded any signings at all. Ramires and Sturridge are the prime example of the kind of signings we fans were shouting from the roof tops for a couple of seasons. Neither of them have hit the ground running but its a step in the right direction nonetheless. If rumors are to be believed, we tried to sign Kaka, Ribery, Neymar etc too.

Now stop being ungrateful or I'd be forced to pull this one out of my old notebook...

I wasn't crying out for Sturridge or Ramires, neither did I want us to spend silly money on Kaka or Ribery. You don't need to spend a fortune to sign good players, we seems to spend a fortune on good & average players.

My suggestion of swapping Sheik Mansuer for RA was obviously not serious. But I think my points are fair. Getting rid of Jose was ridiculous. Upsetting this season was also uncalled for. Spending over the odds on squad players, who are not any better than the one's you let go for free is disapointing. Letting players, who are injured, contracts run down also seems pretty stupid (especially when all you hear is about balancing the books). We could get 6-8m for Bos at the moment. Could have got 12-15m for Cole (although now he must be worth half that).

We have all been spoilt, but don't tell me I am being ungrateful because I am worried about whats going on. Right now, we need reinforcements. I hope we do, but not convinced we will. Finishing outside of the top 4 will be a disaster
