I think so. It was certainly U16 in Scotland.

 We beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 and our scorers were: Didier Deschamps and Albert Ferrer.

Both players scored with their only goals for us in this game v Hertha.

That was my first regular season, can't remember what it said above the turnstiles; might have said schoolboy entrance or something similar, but remember the price was 15 new pence, with 3 shillings in brackets, 5p for a programme; and the cost of my whole match going day, including fares and chips, was less than 50p.

John Sparrow in the other pic with Steve Finnieston on the front pitch at Mitcham. Sparrow was a very highly rated youth player, played for England at all youth levels but never quite made it, scored a good goal on my 17th birthday though, always had a soft spot for him ever since.

A mate of mine became a milkman in 1986 and John Sparrow was a fellow newbie on his induction course. On a side note he was only there a couple of months and people were so paranoid about Chernobyl a lot of them started cancelling their milk !

Sparrow, Chivers, Fillery. I’m sure they’re s more. Mark Dennis who had the reputation as a bit of a nutter turned out for them.

I've got to admit that I never thought I'd be involved in a conversation that included John Sparrow and Chernobyl, live and learn eh?

Other players from that part of the world that I can remember are Teddy Maybank, Colin Pates and Les Briley, don't know which youth teams they were from though. I think Mark Dennis was from Sutton, and one of the Mitcham chaps mentioned was rumoured to enjoy a tear up.
