Eddie Mac challenging Fulham goalie Tony Macedo at Craven Cottage August 1965 which resulted in Macedo getting injured. I love the old shirt of that period.

Away to Crystal Palace January 1971. This is one of my favourites as I always had a soft spot for that Palace shirt and I liked the character of the double tiered stand at the far end with the houses sloping down the hill behind. Note one of the Palace players is wearing what we called bumper boots, these days known as Converse and another with white plimsolls on the frozen pitch.

I'll quote the full caption here: Stansted Airport , Essex. Time off from active football for Chelsea's Charlie Cooke and Bolton's Roger Hunt as they leave here today for Mexico to watch England play. And there was time to keep check on Bobby Charlton's time piece which he had left behind in England. Roger who is taking it out to him was in the 1966 England team.

May 1970.

(Hunt is probably saying better keep this away from Bobby Moore when we get there)

Love these pics, PB!!!

Can you imagine Tommy Baldwin's wedding reception? What a line up, David Webb, Stewart Houston, Marvin Hinton, Paddy Mulligan, Charlie Cooke, Ron Harris, Eddie McCreadie, Johnny Boyle, the groom himself, and Peter Osgood. Bet they drank the place dry!

Not sure who the guy behind Tommy is, maybe his brother?

David Webb was always getting involved in various business ventures, and judging by the girls he's pictured with, I can't blame him - Wiggy Webby!

Not sure where Alan Hudson's cardigan ends and the poodle starts

The Ossie picture is indeed against Shrewsbury Town at the Bridge, we won 3-2 in the FA Cup 5th round. Shrewsbury were in all red that day. Shrewsbury were in the old Division 3, but beat QPR and Carlisle (both after replays) in order to reach the 5th round. Chelsea got beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-final at Villa Park.

Love the Ossie picture at Anfield! And just how old is John Hollins in the pic v Spurs? Should he be allowed out to play with the big boys?

Eddie Mac getting stuck into Tony Macedo is a brilliant picture - also one of my favourite ever Chelsea shirts.

If you're right about the time of the Bobby Tambling & Tommy Baldwin pic, then it's probably against Leeds at the Bridge on 6 May 1967 - a 2-2 draw.

Another great picture at Selhurst Park - I also loved those Palace shirts back then. Maroon with narrow light blue stripes, and yellow collar & cuffs, looked really smart. I would have been at this game, a 0-0 draw - hell of a disappointment after we beat them 5-1 in the same fixture just a year before. The Palace number 8 in the pic is Steve Kember, later to sign for us.

You've got a real treasure trove of pictures there, PB, I'm very jealous!

It's a pleasure Bluebeard, they've been sitting in my loft for years and I know people such as yourself, MK and Carshalton appreciate them. I've dozens more as well as boxes of unprinted colour negatives!

Thanks for all the comments, I'll keep them coming.

First off a couple for Bluebeard ! A very young Steve Kember in that Palace kit again. The portrait is dated October 1967 and I'm sure the match picture is around the same period. Nice to see Palace had invalid cars around their pitch also.

Action from the FA Cup Final replay at Old Trafford 29th April 1970. Hutchinson, Harris and Lorimer with the packed Chelsea Stretford End in the background.

Another from the ECWC Semi-Final v. Man City. Derek Smethurst scores past Corrigan while Tony Book watches. April 1971.

More action from the Fulham match, John Hollins this time. Both this and the Eddie Mac photo have captions relating to Chelsea players being bombarded by bottles and missiles, surely not at Fulham! No they refer to a Fairs Cup game away at Roma.

Time to pay credit to the photographers on theses match day shots, no digital blasting away in those days, film had to be bought and every photo cost money to develop and print.

A couple of Ossie in typical poise. Gliding past Ian Ure of Manchester United in April 1970 and dropping the shoulder against unknown opponents in April 1968.

McCreadie against Arsenal away, 4th February 1967. I can't ever remember them playing in anything but red with white sleeves. One of the Arsenal players is Addison.

Another view of the old East Stand again Forest October 1971. Chelsea players are Baldwin, Osgood, Hudson, Houseman and Harris and for Forest the goalie is Barry Lyons watched by Bob Chapman.

Nice pics of Kember - hated Palace but loved their kit. Love the Old Trafford Cup Final pic, the Ossie pics, and the Johnny Hollins one at Fulham.

That Derek Smethurst goal brings back so many memories! He was a South African striker, and a decent back-up for Ossie or Hutch, but only played 19 times for us, scoring 5 goals. He moved to Millwall just a few months after the City game, but at least he got a European Cup Winners Cup winners medal first! And he named his daughter Chelsea, good lad!

The Johnny Hollins pic at Mitcham Training Ground made me smile - I was only 7 at the time of the pic, and I'm sure I looked older than 'Olly!

I've never seen Arsenal play in all red shirts either. Just looked around the web and solved the mystery. Arsenal played in maroon shirts until 1918, then wore all red shirts till 1933 when they changed to red with white sleeves. For some reason they switched to all red shirts for two years 1965 to 1967, then reverted to the white sleeves. [http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Arsenal/Arsenal.htm]

The Chelsea player in the background of the Highbury pic is defender Jim Thomson, the gooner on the right is George Graham.

Great picture of Tommy Docherty and new signing Charlie Cooke. Charlie was brought in to replace Terry Venables just before the end of the 65/66 season and made his debut at home to Barca in the Fairs Cup SF at the Bridge. His second appearance was at Barca in the SF play off (we were level at 2-2 after 2 legs). We got stuffed 0-5 at the Nou Camp, bet Charlie wondered what he'd let himself in for!

Great pictures these, thanks PB for posting them, just a question for the old boy's though............what was the prob with Dave Sexton & the injured Tommy Baldwin in the courthouse pic dated Oct 1969??. (#1210).

I've been looking everywhere to try and find that out - and finally found an account in Clive Batty's book "Kings Of The Kings Road".

Apparently, Tommy Baldwin was drinking with some of his ex-Arsenal team-mates in Southgate (north London), when they all decided to go to a party. Tommy was in the back of a car with a girl while one his mates was driving. Suddenly Tommy's mate noticed they were being followed by a police car, and for some reason put his foot down, heading in the direction of Hackney. Tommy's main worry was that Dave Sexton didn't like his players drinking, to put it mildly, and he had a bottle of vodka on him. and so he hurled the bottle out of the window at high speed as the chase continued.

They eventually got caught in a road-block at Old Street. Tommy was (wrongly) charged with assaulting a policeman and throwing a bottle of vodka at a police car! Next morning he went to Old Street Magistrates Court after a night in the cells, no change of clothes or washing facilities, his shirt ripped and his face covered in blood (been there, done that a few times). He pleaded not guilty and it was taken to Crown Court, where he was found guilty of assault and given four months in prison. Tommy was let out on appeal, and Chelsea were very supportive of him. Dave Sexton attended the appeal hearing with him, and the court decided the case wasn't proven due to the police evidence being messed up, and Tommy's sentence was suspended.

Hope this post isn't going to cause any problems for anyone - it was a long time ago, and was explained in more detail in the above mentioned book. If the mods think it should be deleted, that's fine, I've no problem with it.

Wow,that's some tale, thanks for posting it mate.

Fancy Mr plod getting his knickers all in a twist?.

I always thought it was the characters like Ossie,Webby & Hudson that got up to all the capers.

Got to chuckle when you think of all the sleepless nights Dave Sexton must have had trying to keep a lid on that dressing room.

Just wished I'd had the chance to watch them play live really,(or join in with the post match booze-up...........err, I mean, match analysis!).
