Posted August 27, 201113 yr Chelsea can also consider signing this lad. He is brilliant with both short and long range passes. He can be a decent alternative to Luka Modrich. More importantly I think he is available from Fiorentina. His price should be in the range of £15m - £20m. He would be a bargain if signed. That "chicken club" (TH) also wants him. Check him out here:
August 27, 201113 yr ive always liked the player tbf he can dribble abit as well and for 15 mil half what spurs rejected for modric but is there anything in this?
August 27, 201113 yr Author Is he Chelsea quality? I mean i'm not sure if he is that good, really I think he is quality who can fit in. There is something about how he drops his passes even in tight defenses that I like which I believe can be helpful in penetrating oppositions. And we have tall and big strikers in Lukaku and Drogba that can connect his drop passes. More importantly he is cheap and his employer is willing to sell to a buyer from outside Italy.
August 28, 201113 yr IMO he is a better attacking player than Modric. Plays the same way in central midfield but is a bit more of a goal threat. What Modric does offer though is EPL experience (Montolivo has played all his life in a poor Serie A) and a lot more contribution in defense. I just don't know how he'd adapt to the speed of the game in England.
March 15, 201213 yr He has refused to sign a new contract with Fiorentina and will be a free agent come summer. If Modric is unavailable or too expensive, we could do a lot worse than going after Montolivo. Throw him a nice bonus and solid wage and he's ours. Plus, if Meireles really wants out, I'd say we'll improve our midfield dramatically by swapping the tattooed Portuegeezer for a quality Italian regista.
March 15, 201213 yr We've missed so many bargains cuz of thoughts like "not chelsea material", so i really dont care now, just want it to be our new manager's signing, not board or Roman's.
March 15, 201213 yr An older, more Italian version of Modric. I have questions as to whether at his age he'd be able to adjust to the pace of the Prem instantly, but on a free we'd be mad not to want to find out. Edited March 15, 201213 yr by SydneyChelsea
March 15, 201213 yr There are some excellent frees out there this season. Montolivo is one. As far as "registas" ie that playmaker we need goes he is excellent. My concerns would mirror SCs with the addition of him not doing a lot defensively which is concerning. But for a free? Yeah why not.

March 16, 201213 yr And we can call him Monty. Lovely. So we would have Monty and Sideshow Bob. Maybe we should start playing in yellow instead

My concerns would mirror SCs with the addition of him not doing a lot defensively which is concerning. But for a free? Yeah why not. He's a pretty hard worker. From a very young age he was touted as a future Italy captain and captained every youth side he played in I think? He's certainly no regista in the Pirlo mould, he's not afraid to get stuck in. They are the same age. You're right, same birth year (1985) though Montolivo is nine months older.
March 16, 201213 yr Rumours are he's already signed a pre contract with Milan, he definately would be a great addition, 2 footed player who can spot a pass. Would alleviate the pressure off Mata.
March 16, 201213 yr I mentioned him as an alternative to Modric in the summer. But also heard he was moving to AC
