AVB presumably listed who he wanted or the type of player...........and the exec. did the deals

in the old days the manager did the lot, but now, cos of the agents complications - its management and lawyers

so the coach can worry about coaching - probably a good idea actually

what next?, the management decide who to bring in.................just like Hearts in jockland

I dont buy into that at all, whenever AVB was doing interviews he was always talking about WE are looking at players and WE have assessed the sqaud. Sure he wass working in tandem with people but i have a feeling he was heavily involved. Of course i am speculating just as much as you are but going off the interviews he had i feel i have more to back up what i am saying

‘Fernando Torres helped influence my decision but speaking directly with Andre Villas-Boas was the decisive factor. (Specifically) he explained how his style will be based on a 4-3-3 and how important I will be to his plans.

Must've been that other Villas Boas at Chelsea though.

I know of a couple of people from a finance and audit perspective who have been involved with reviewing player contracts at various clubs.

The are enormously complex, detailed, involve image rights, family/domestic issues, support, extremely complex bonus schemes, player employee issues, agents remuneration and involvement, agents rights, this is two A4 binders worth before you go on to the next 3 A4 binders worth of details and remuneration to the selling club.

The football/player side is the easy bit.

It takes a lot of the clubs resources to sort out the deals and touches most of the management team.

I know I am telling some of you something you already know but when the club say talks have broken down as supporters we should trust the club,it might be that a fringe player is asking the club to pay for tennis lessons for his wife and schooling for his children or what ever.

You don't want Avb involved with all that.

I cant actually tell if the OP is saying its a bad thing or a good thing, thats very confusing.

Looking at the topic title: avb NOT involved in the deals at all

It's simply not true. We can hazard a guess that Meireles was AVB's choice, as would have been Pereira had he been available at the right price. My take on this one by the way, is that the club were perfectly correct not to meet Porto's demands.

Lukaku is known to have been a medium to long term target. And we can only guess at who initially identified Mata as a target.

But the one that well and truly completely knocks the argument that AVB has no involvement in our transfer dealings on the head is that of Oriel Romeu who is known to have been a target of AVB's while he was still manager of Porto.

Sorry, what was the point again?

I don't get this thread at all.

The title is: "AVB not involved in deals". With that title you seem to imply that whoever decides we buy, it's not AVB, but then you go on to say he listst the players he wants and the execs do the deal. Isn't that just a tiny bitsy being involved? And handing over the nitty-gritty of the negotiations seems very wise to me. That is not his job, and as you yourself and Andy have stated, so complicated that it needs other skills than those of a football manager.

What am I missing regarding the point of your thread?

Im not sure what the point of this thread is or what is the issue here?

Of course AVB informs the relevant people at the club who he wants then it's up to the club to try and get the deals done if approved.

AVB is the coach. He doesn't deal with the transfers personally. What point are you trying to make ??

Indeed. Thats what I thought aswell.

If anything we should be happy that AVB can decide who he wants. The title of this threat is really misleading
