Our best player until he got kicked on the shin. Took his time to recover. The decision to sub him was the pivotal moment in the match. They may have been having a good spell but we had just had a good spell of our own. His withdrawal handed all the initiative to them and that was that, we stopped playing and stopped offering any kind of threat. Shame, because three points would have been invaluable. If we needed fresh legs his weren't the legs to take off. Malouda's or Lampard's were, despite the fact they had combined for the goal. Maybe AVB felt pressure to keep Lampard on, in which case, all I can say is, "trust your judgement".

Think you're a bit harsh on Malouda, he did get a nice assist. Also a bit generous with Ramires who missed a sitter that should have won us the game.

Apart from that not real arguments. Oh and I also like Taxi Driver, though Travis wasn't particularly great tonight.

Mata 5 & Malouda 6? really? I know Malouda set up Franks goal but I thought it was a generally frustrating night for him, constantly gave the ball away and fluffed a decent chance when we had acres of space & time in their box with what can only be described as a a'pass' to their keeper.

Mata on the other hand was involved in everything that was good about our play for most of the night & especially the 15/20 minute spell at the start of the sceond half when we were opening them up constantsly and really should have scored and put the game out of reach.

Malouda would get a 7 for me, not his biggest fan but he worked his @ss of last night. Torres would also get a 6. other then that you have done well

Thought Luiz was better than JT last night. To say JT didn't put a foot wrong is way off the mark as the guy he was marking got away from him a number of times and JT looked uncomfortable for large parts of the match.

And Mata only deserves a 6 as does Torres IMO.

Yep. I thought Luiz looked very good. Bosingwa was his usual self. Mixture of good and bad. But the good doesn't out weigh the bad for me.

Thought we played well. Valencia are a good side. Shame to concede late but overall I'm not unhappy.

The more I think about it, the more I am disappointed by AVB's subs. At half time in the match thread, someone posted that Mikel and Malouda were awful and needed to come off at half time. As much as I'm not a huge fan of Mikel (or Malouda for that matter), I responded that I thought both were doing ok and at 0-0 we looked comfortable.

Second half we come out flying and go one up and should have been two up game over. Then they come back at us and when we were under the cosh, THAT is when I would expect Mikel to up his game and help ease the pressure on the defence. But exactly the opposite happened, we were struggling to cope at times and add to that, Malouda starts giving the ball away. So when we needed players on the pitch who could just take the sting out of the game and frustrate Valencia it didn't happen and we just kept giving them the ball back. Very frustrating.

Harsh on Luiz and Torres... Luiz in the second half was excellent. In fact it was Jt who was a bit behind the play at times.

Torres medioca first half but had a stone wall pen. He looked brilliant to me in the second, dont know why he came off. Very unlucky but I am excited about his form.

He also got blocked off about half a dozen times when playing a give and go, and the ref ignored every single one of them. No wonder he was getting frustrated.

I would expect that he knows he made a mistake Nibs. He mentioned that he wanted Kalou to be able to run the ball out, a tactic that Jose often employed most notably with eto on the wing. In reality he should have used anelka for that and drogba should have been on.

One of my biggest issues with Carlo was his inability to really learn from his mistakes and be ruthles with the players when the need arose. AVB is to blame for what happend yesterday. He made the wrong choices, but they wernt just wrong in terms of we have to do somthing so im going to try this... they where just needless. Simples. Hopefully we wont see it happening again
