Ratings vs West Brom

Thoughts?

I would go with:

Cech - 6 - Apart from the two goals, didn't have a whole lot to do. I can remember a couple of long range efforts straight at him, nothing much else.

Bertrand - 6 - Did okay, though possibly culpable for the 2nd goal. Doesn't seem to go forward with the ball much, passes as soon as he gets it usually.

Luiz - 4 - His fault for the first goal (again), gave away cheap free kicks. Poor all round.

Cahill - 5 - Got taught a lesson by Shane Long most of the game and gave away needless freekicks in dangerous positions.

Azpilicueta - 6.5 - Didn't have much to do defensively and got forward and put some decent balls into the box.

Romeu - 6 - Didn't do much wrong, just didn't do much.

Mikel - 6 - Made a few interceptions, but again, didn't really do a whole lot else. Pointless having him and Romeu in the same 11.

Hazard - 6.5 - Got a goal, tried to create without Mata & Oscar, but was bossed by Odimwingie mostly, often losing the ball when trying to run with it. Some poor corners as well.

Sturridge - 6.5 - Linked up well with Mata and Oscar, got into scoring positions, unlucky with a few, poor decision for the last one. At least he was having chances though.

Moses - 5.5 - Willing to run at defenders, but often left the ball behind. Poor I thought.

Torres - 1 - He made 1 pass.

Subs:

Mata - 6.8 - Put in some good passes for Sturridge, looked much more dangerous with him on the field

Oscar - 6 - A few decent passes, great touch for Sturridge towards the end

Ramires - N.a - didn't really get into the game

Cech - 6.5 - Not involved a great deal, it's always difficult to deal with powerful headers into the floor.

Bertrand - 6 - Seems to be on a run of poor form, was outpaced on a number of occasions and offered little going forward.

Luiz - 5.5 - Decent aerially although responsible for at least one goal. He was fairly sensible in possession for once, although his tackling and positioning were once again poor.

Cahill - 5.5 - Bad day at the office I think. Reminded me of Alex trying to deal with Shane Long last season and failing miserably.

Azpilicueta - 7 - Solid defensively and provided attacking thrust. Nice cross for the assist.

Romeu - 6 - His lack of invention going forward was exposed by Robbie D's selection, but was otherwise alright.

Mikel - 6.5 - A couple of moments of magic and a couple of great long passes, but he really isn't cut out to be the attacking one of a midfield two.

Hazard - 7 - Scored the goal (as surprised as he may have been about it) and was certainly more dangerous than most of his teammates today. He didn't get much joy down the middle due to Yacob and Mulumbu holding, and was forced wide where he is less effective.

Sturridge - 6.5 - Hit and miss as always. Looked more dangerous at centre-forward than on the wing, certainly our best option at centre-forward right now.

Moses - 6 - Had a fairly uneventful afternoon and created little. He did grow into the game somewhat but it was really too little too late.

Torres - 4 - Anonymous to the extent of being invisible, a complete non-entity in the game and provided literally zero danger to the opposition goal. The fact that he was hauled off when Di Matteo wanted his most dangerous available XI on the field speaks volumes.

Subs:

Mata - 7.5 - Comfortably our best player, brought the team to life. If he had started I doubt we would have lost.

Oscar - 6.5 - Couldn't have as much influence as he ordinarily would have due to being played at centre mid. That said, he was certainly a more nimble option than Romeu.

Ramires - 6.5 - Would have brought him on at half time, his physical drive from midfield was exactly what we needed. He certainly contributed to our far better attacking play towards the end.

Torres - 4 - Anonymous to the extent of being invisible, a complete non-entity in the game and provided literally zero danger to the opposition goal. The fact that he was hauled off when Di Matteo wanted his most dangerous available XI on the field speaks volumes.

Even more horrifying was that our own supporters at the ground, and lets face it... probably most of us here, cheered when he got subbed.

If that does not scream "Dead Man Walking" then I do not know what does.

0/10 for him today; might as well have not gotten on the bus to the Hawthorns.

Luiz solely responsible for first goal? We ignoring the piss poor marking allowing the cross in the first place?

I said it in the game thread but Romeu was equally responsible here. Romeu was completely useless out there, Mikel at least contributed defensively by winning some duels and breaking up the play. Romeu couldnt defend and couldnt contribute to the attack. People keeps posting we might as well play with ten men instead of Torres, well we might as well play with a fifth defender instead of Romeu. Maybe we dont concede two at West Brom, its not like we would suffer offensively either.

Im really dreading the ACON this year..

I'm not!!!

Me neither. For the first time in a fair while we won;t have to worry about losing KEY players such as Drogba and Essien (at his peak).
