Pitch Invasions

Can you beat us?

First one I can recall was that match in the 74/5 season which we won 2-0 with fighting just before kick off, then a week or so later when we beat Leeds 4-2 in a night game to secure survival in div 1 as we all spilled on at the end of the game to celebrate.

Two years later, final game of the season as we beat Leicester but were relegated, chanting "Millwall here we come," and then in 78 at Southampton as we secure a draw. The fence gets ripped down and the Southampton fans who had been throwing missiles at us do a runner.

Running the length of Craven Cottage into the Fulham end as it's pissing down with rain and we're getting soaked in the open end.

But the best has got to be in the early 90s when me and the lad, aged 10, were about to depart a Gravesend v Colchester FA Cup game when we hear the bloke on the tannoy having kittens because a few Gravesend had dared to run on the pitch, and he was coming out with dire warnings like "for your own safety get off the pitch NOW!" so we decided to have a run on just to wind him up even more.

Didn't some Millwall run from the North Stand to the Shed in 76/7?

Best ones I can remember not particularly being Chelsea were Newcastle Vs Nottingham Forest in the cup where they got the game abandoned and I think one the replay. Man Utd Vs Man City was a good one, I think that triggered fencing at Old Trafford If memory serves me right was an ex player was it Frances lee that scored and the Stretford End emptied onto the pitch.I was at Tottenham Vs Chelsea when it seemed the whole ground was fighting. Also Celtic Vs Rangers in the cup was probably the worst. I also went to the England Vs Scotland game when the goalpost came down!! For chelsea was when we went up and it seemd the whole of Stamford bridge was on the pitch..

One of the threads on this site has a listing of who's been on who;s pitch.

Best pitch invasion I have seen was at Bolton where Chelsea ran across the pitch from one end to the other and helped take the entire Bolton End,

Millwall came across the pitch in 76 -77 they tried to get over the fence but failed with massed Chelsea behind and police.

The only Millwall on the pitch were those that got hammered coming into the Bovril and climbed onto the pitch to escape, they never came from the North Stand, maybe a few tried but I never saw it.

I can remember were Southampton away in the League Cup where they ran on from the Milton End and our lot in the side enclose scattered them.

I was at the Spurs/Fulham game I don't remember the pitch invasion but was there when Pompey came over in '84.

It was hardly at pitch invasion at Fulham, but there was a load of ours in the Fulham end singing "come and join us" so 20/30 of us took the opportunity to seek shelter from the elements.

Surely one of the best piss takes from a pitch invasion is the 20,000+ Arsenal who got on your pitch to celebrate winning the league in 71?

I was to the right of your lot at the back of theThamesbank.

On the crowded underground back we get to Earls Court and in the carriage a yell goes up "Arsenal." Half the carriages alight and make a beeline for the muppets wearing red and white scarves until those at the front stop dead in their tracks. It's Welsh rugby supporters on the way back from Twickenham.

Hurts to say but I always thought the spurs fans who got on the pitch to fight Man city in that cup game showed some bollocks, fair play to 'em. Villa away in the 90's always makes me laugh because of the posturing the villa fans were giving until we joined them. QPR in the 80's another good fun one letting them know they have no home section in the ground.

I remember reading a similar story to the one above, Colchester united fans attacked a rival group of fans in a Colchester town centre pub unfortunately for them it turned out to be a couple of rugby teams whose game had been cancelled.

Chelsea 5 Man Utd 0, couple of hours after in the Slug some South African rugby players got properly ironed out by some CFC mates of mine, proper tear up with 2/3 SA rugby bods sprawled out sparko on the fulham road covered in claret, weird thing was i'd left 5/10mins before, then my mates turned up looking for me & then it went right off.

A few made a half hearted attempt to get on to the pitch but allowed themselves to be herded back onto the North Stand without much fuss. I've always thought that given their reputation and the hiding we got there at the start of that season that their effort at ours was piss poor. No more than a 100 came in the Shed, and if they hadn't escaped onto the pitch would have been slaughtered. I always enjoy asking Millwall fans what stopped them coming into the Shed that day, after all they could have even worn their colours and not been stopped, same accent as well, they'll never admit it but I just don't think they fancied it much, maybe put off by the good account ours gave of themselves at Millwall.

A valid point. At the time i was still attending the London College of Printing at the Elephant & Castle, along with some Millwall guys on the same course. I asked them the same question and they said it was the first time they had played at the Bridge in their era, and wer'nt sure of the ground layout!.

Have never heard a more pathetic excuse in my life!

What caused that?

One of the rugby bods was pushing his weight about, thinking because he was a big lump he could bully people, until my mates turned up, i bet when he woke up he thought f**k doing that again lol!

Nice one. Love when dickheads get what they deserve. Bigger they are the harder they fall. Was a great day that day beating the mancs 5-0 great atmosphere.

I used to play club rugby after I stopped going to football matches and there are some right areseholes about, particularly the arrogant ex public school players.

Like you when we played Millwall in 77/8 the home game on Easter Monday was a lot tamer than the away game that preceded it on Boxing Day, virtually a non event.

I , and half of London was at spite hart lane when millwall lifted the park lane.....game spuds tried to take it back with little luck

That was in the league cup game in 75, not the league game in 78.

I was at the Barry Kitchener testimonial v Spurs a few months later, and the speaker asks "who's here for Millwall?" and whole of the Den erupts, "And who's here for Spurs," and you could hear the proverbial pin drop.

I was in the Shed v Millwall just above where they were escaping onto the pitch. Their main mob up the North stand might not have done much on the pitch but did have a right go at that Mesh fencing and I remember it swaying back and forwards as the police struggled to keep them in and the fence up.

The league cup game that you keep going on about against Millwall was in 1972 and I went. Millwall did not bother to take the Park Lane they just stood in there. Spurs main boys all stood in the Shelf at the time! In 1975 all Spurs boys were in the Paxton. I hope that helps jog your memory.

I can remember a big fat Millwall lump trying to climb the fence at the shed end, it sort of wobbled, he wobbled and he never made it . :blush2:
