Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

Well, Costa has been playing with Spain for a number of games and they were not capable to become accustomed to his style yet? How long does it usually take?

At Chelsea he is a hit after three games though.

In all fairness, why should the entire team work to become accustomed to one guy's style? He should be the one doing it.  He is a misfit there.

Ward,

I would not name him a misfit. Should they not try to create opportunities for him to score as in Chelsea? After all, he certainly can score goals.

He is a misfit in Spain NT. Their system is all about passing and midfielders. If Costa wants to fit in, he should be the one making an effort to play like the rest of them rather than the other way round. This Spain will never be a fast counter-attacking team. He knew it when he joined them. It was his own choice. Expecting the entire team to change its style to accommodate him is unfair to the rest of the players. The style that brought Spain so many titles in the last decade doesn't revolve around creating chances for one player in particular. It's a team work. Honestly, when Spain played 4-6-0, they were more effective because they overwhelmed the opposition's midfield. IMO, Costa should have chosen Brazil. He would have fit in much better there.

Of course Spain might need to change their approach, but it won't be easy and shouldn't be done just for the sake of 1 player.

No kidding - Costa is exactly what Brazil need - much better fit. Wouldn't have mattered for the WC though.

Not trying to argue with you but if the coach is picking him to start and know his strengths then what kind of message does that send?

He has seen Costas style clashing from the rest of the team so far so why keep picking him unless you are happy with him to play that way if he doesn't seem to adapt. It's not like Costa can say actually I don't want to play, hes going to play if he gets picked. I agree that it's not right for 10 players suit the style of one but the manager isn't really making a statement telling Costa to change by keep picking him.

Sometimes it's not a player doesn't want to change his style, it's a case that he doesn't know how to fit his new team, case in point the late great Nando Torres.

Costa should play to his strengths, if the Spanish don't like that they should pick someone else or go back to having Cesc up front.

I think the era of tiki taka is ending anyway, it's been exposed horribly by quick counter attacking teams over the last 2-3 seasons.

I agree, but the thing is, Costa's form for the club practically forces Del Bosque to play him.  Diego has been a beast for Atletico and now Chelsea. Del Bosque would get massive criticism if he doesn't use the best Spanish striker. IMO, Costa will be dropped only if he continues underperforming for the NT.

I agree, no real hardship for me if he doesn't play, can rest his hammy then. Would be a shame but he might end up being one of those players that never really makes it internationals wise.

Today, I have read Costa should start on Saturday. I sort of like the way he walked out on the Spanish team to come to London so Chelsea medical staff can take care of his hammy.

The club first, then others. Much appreciated.

That is what players do if they can't make the international game, return to their club!

He didn't walk out the Spainish medical team sent him back to Chelsea with the medical reports.

It's what happens now.

I want Costa to play every Premier League game but I also want Costa to be our number 1 forward for a long time.

So I think we have to make hard decisions for the long term, if we have to sit him out against Swansea then so be it. Give Remy a chance or maybe bring him on later and give Drogba the start, that would probably be the better idea.

CFC,

He was slightly hurt and went to London for treatment. At least, that's what I had read.

Yeah think he was still feeling something in his hamstring but doesn't seem to be anything serious thankfully.

Maybe best to go with Remy for Swansea just to be safe?

CFC,

As before, Costa was supposed to be away for weeks. Then he scored two goals. I don't know what will Jose decide, Swansea is no push over. Hence, I would prefer to see Costa on the pitch. Of course, ready to play only.

I would too ideally.

However since these niggling issues keep appearing maybe a weeks rest would do him the world of good?

If he's 100% though then he should play but at least now we have a very good option in Remy who is ready to go if Costa needs time.

Agree. Start with the Drog.

Remy is more ready to start than Drogba IMO.

Remy's not been training with the team though, think he's be better to bring on

He's played games and just scored in the last few weeks.

Drogba looks very rusty and I don't think he'd be a huge threat against Swansea.

I'd personally go with Remy if Costa isn't ready.
