July 26, 201510 yr Hi guys first post so please forgive me if this is in the wrong section. What is the best pub for a pre match sing song? I haven't been to the bridge for a few seasons - I used to drink in the fox which was always quite good. I'm taking the misses to the bridge for the Swansea game and want to show her what a proper chels matchday is!
July 26, 201510 yr Good luck, the decent pubs are dying out one by one. It's gastro heaven these days. Now I normally go either The Chelsea Ram or The Lots Rd Inn or sometimes The Pembroke and The Finborough in Brompton.None of these are particularly riotus though, all with decent food and expensive beer, all get busy but not overloaded and are quite nice, decent places to go when I'm there with the wife. The closest you'll get to the full Chelsea old matchday experience is Brogans, which is fun, but I wouldn't dream of taking the missus in there!
July 26, 201510 yr Cheers mate I might give brogans a go. To be fair to her my missus she is a football girl so hoping it won't phase her!
July 26, 201510 yr As a football loving woman, I can reassure you that there will be nothing in Brogans to shock or offend - just a nice loud singalong with expensive beer and a big queue at the bar. I don't know why anyone wouldn't take their missus in there!
July 26, 201510 yr Hello and welcome David 1903. To whet your appetite: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIfW64tdNg
July 26, 201510 yr Brogans is the place to go. I don't see any problem with someone taking a girlfriend or wife in there! There'll be a good sing-song, just be prepared to have a long wait at the bar.
July 26, 201510 yr Lol, my wife ain't the biggest fan of football. A game or two a season but that's it. If youre other half is into that stuff the she'll love it in Brogans for sure, especially post match. It's actually more mental when Chelsea aren't at home in a big game. That's when I'd be more wary of taking a lady! And yes, be prepared to wait at the bar. I hate that sh*t, it's worse than in the ground itself. Edited July 26, 201510 yr by bjd

July 26, 201510 yr Hello and welcome David 1903. To whet your appetite: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mUIfW64tdNg I'm in there somewhere. Was gutted that I couldn't go to Munich but what an unforgettable night that was all the same.
July 27, 201510 yr I'd love to visit for one of those big games - but I can't really justify a 360 mile round trip to watch a match in a pub!! Maybe I can combine in with doing something else in London? Stop it you lot, you're a bad influence on me!
July 27, 201510 yr Think i will call into brogans for a few pre match pints and a sing along on my next trip to the bridge!
July 27, 201510 yr Will do 2 should do me anyway I will have already had plenty to drink by the time i get there ... i mean what else is there to do on a 3 hours train journey on your own ! lol
July 27, 201510 yr 3 hours? Where are you coming from? I have about the same length journey from Shropshire.
July 28, 201510 yr I get the train from Chester, change at Crewe then straight into Euston. I think chester is about an hour away from Shropshire.
July 28, 201510 yr Yeah that's right - it's a bit of a pain that attending a match takes a whole day isn't it? Three o'clock KOs are best so I don't get home too late but don't have to leave too early either! Edited July 28, 201510 yr by Beerqueen
July 28, 201510 yr Yeah 3 o clock KO are the best. will still be out of the house for over 12 hours. It's all worth it though :)
July 28, 201510 yr Yeah me too - 12 hour round trip is about the norm! Luckily we mostly get the supporters' coach which at least takes us almost door to door!
July 28, 201510 yr Yeah me too - 12 hour round trip is about the norm! Luckily we mostly get the supporters' coach which at least takes us almost door to door! Which supporters club are you with? the closest to me is Shrewsbury i think.
July 28, 201510 yr That's the one I'm with. They pick up at Walsall (I think, somewhere on the motorway anyway) and Telford as well Edited July 28, 201510 yr by Beerqueen
July 28, 201510 yr ah right cool. might look into that then how long does is usually take on the coach ?
July 28, 201510 yr About 4 1/2 hours I think - it get's you outside the ground (literally!) about two hours before kick off after a stop for about half an hour at a service station for a snack. Short walk to Brogans and sorted! Only thing is, the coach leaves straight after the match so no chance of a post-match drink. I think you need to live in the area to sign up - but I don't know how big "the area" is - I know there are people from Wales who travel on the coach.
July 29, 201510 yr Yeah me too - 12 hour round trip is about the norm! Luckily we mostly get the supporters' coach which at least takes us almost door to door! I didn't know you were living in Shropshire neighbour ,I'm lucky, theirs a direct inter city service from Gt Malvern to Paddington in just over 2 and a half hours for £52, then it's just 15 mins on the tube.
July 29, 201510 yr £52 - ouch! That's another reason I like the supporters' coach - £25 return, door to door (almost) and no changes. We have two direct trains a day - £56 return but they never seem to fit in. So we have to change at Birmingham usually. And an added problem with the CS is you don't know whether there'll be extra time and pens.
