The FA are going to be busy

What with charging Spurs for failing to control their fans and charging our players for failing to stand back and allow a fan to do as they pleased after attacking one of our players and now they have this to deal with:

Gareth Southgate on the Morrisson lunge on Ronaldo that earnt him a straight red:

And Southgate was not in an apologetic mood after James Morrison's wild, late lunge on Ronaldo, which earned the youngster a red card.

He added: "In that situation, we would all love to do that."

Dont get me wrong , Ronaldo is a diving little scroat but i just dont see what the fuss is about here.

Looks a clear pen to me.

It was a clear penalty, but I thought you aren't allowed to stop after you've started your run towards the ball when you take the spotkick... icon_confused.gif

I'll admit though, that the ref would need to have the balls of an elephant to order the spotkick to be taken again because of that, even if it's against the rules.

If you watch it from the right angle you can see that Ronaldo knows Woodgate is coming and not only trails his right leg to catch Woodgate, but also moves it across to his right.

There was definitely contact, but it was initiated by Ronaldo.

Having said that, it is currently what any player would do in the same circumstance. If the defender puts his leg in and the attacker contrives to fall over it then it is a penalty.

I refer readers to the Kalou penalty against Man City. First up it looked a stonewall penalty but on subsequent viewing you could clearly see that Kalou was looking for it. As contact happened it was a penalty.

Personally I would like to see the rule changed to prevent this happening, but it's hard really to see how it could be enforced.

Surely Southgate can use the "fair comment" defence?

It certainly brought a smile to my face. icon_lol.gif

The FA are not the only one keeping busy icon_rolleyes.gif

It's a shame really, another Boro final at Wembley had a nice ring to it icon_lol.gif

I think you all need to calm down.

You may not agree with her, but being abusive and insulting is all I would expect from a litle further up the road.

Like it or not, you have to admit she is right on facts alone. It may have been going on for a long time, but does that make it right? Ronaldo is arguably the worst exponent of this latest wave of cheating, have you seen how he was able to remain standing with 6 of his team mates on his back after scoring the penalty!!

I don't suppose for one minute she is seriously considering taking out this private prosecution, merely opening a very interesting debate. However, someone has to stop this cancer on our beautiful game, why not us?

Nice one!

Assuming we beat Blackburn 128.gif , in a way I would have preferred Watford or Borough in the final as we'd have to fancy our chances. But us v Man Utd HAS to be the final. First one back at Wembley and the big two fight it out. Chances are, we'll be trying to stop them doing the double, so it will be hugely sweet if we can turn them over big time. Revenge for 1994 (as long as the FA don't give the final to Poll as he's likely to be worse than that C*** Ellery icon_twisted.gif )

Going back to Ronaldo, I think as others say, he has only done for the pen, what most attackers would have done.

And if only more defenders could put in a few more tackles like that on him icon_lol.gif Again - you have to hand it to him - kicked up in the air and he's jumped straight up. Can't help but think Robben would have been down for a while icon_rolleyes.gif

as long as the FA don't give the final to Poll

I think you can only referee 1 FA cup final during your career, Poll has already f**ked up one (sorry I mean refereed) so he won't be able to ruin another!
