August 11, 20205 yr @bluehaze interesting term 'spastic points' , never heard of them myself. It must have been something to do with the spastic society but what they represented is intriguing.
August 12, 20205 yr Cleaning up at Hampden Park in 1965 after a match when Rangers had played Celtic and 107,000 fans had attended. Must have been a lot of cans and bottles.

Going by the tenements in the background of that picture. That would appear to be the Mount Florida End of Hampden. Where the Rangers supporters have traditionally congregated since I believe the early 1920s That area of terracing was given a roof a couple of years later. Edited August 12, 20205 yr by erskblue

August 12, 20205 yr Photo From: World Soccer, May 1968 The Scotland No 9 John Hughes, is missing ‘a sitter’ from a yard out. Gordon Banks had misjudged a corner from Charlie Cooke and the ball fell to Hughes... The game finished 1-1

Bobby Lennox and Tommy Gemmell behind John Grieg. I think it's Billy McNeill behind Gemmell. As well as Charlie Cooke playing in the side, Eddie was in the Scotland side. Will Johnston was also in the side. Charlie and Bud on the same side: two fine wingers.

Tom Forsyth has just scored from about a yard our. The attendance that day was 122,000. Yes, 122,000. However, 134,000 tickets had been sold for the match. The next Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Rangers saw a much lower attendance of 55,000 ish. The 1977 game was live on tv and I think the Hampden capacity was about 85,000. However, that was some drop in attendance in four years.

I wonder what happened to the other 12,000 tickets. 1973 was the centenary cup final. Amazing that attendances dropped so much over the years, partly due to the redevelopment of Hampden. The last time I went to a game at Hampden was the Scottish Cup Final in 1992 when Rangers bear Airdrie 2-1 and the attendance was 44,000. That game was Nigel Spackman's last game for Rangers before heading back to Chelsea. I think the current capacity of Hampden is 52,000 a third of the attendance of nearly 150,000 when my grand-father was there for a Scotland v England match.

Agreed it was quite a drop the 12,O00 would bought a ticket but didn’t actually attend. The last time I was a spectator at a football match at Hampden was for Queens Park V Rangers in Dec 2012. A 3rd Division game that was broadcast live on tv.. I was at the athletics Diamond League Meeting at Hampden in July 2014
