He was coming back from his second broken leg and thought Bremner had gone over the top and deliberately tried to hurt the just healed broken leg. Bremner doesn’t look such a ‘hard man’ ihttp:/ /rip-dave-mackay-a-colossus-of-scott Only looks like there will be one winner in that contest. MacKay if I recall correctly went on to Clough's Derby and helped them win promotion.

He certainly helped them win the league, and then managed Derby to the title after Clough left for Leeds. Not sure if he played under Clough in Div 2 - will check. Edit: Yes, you're right. Joined Derby in Div 2 the season they went up. As a young boy living in Newport I was taken to watch Cardiff and Newport quite a bit, and actually went to watch a big promotion battle between Cardiff and Derby that season. Just looked it up and McKay played in a 1-1 draw. Edited October 16, 20205 yr by Backbiter

Dave MacKay moved to Derby County in July 1968. Under Brian Clough he played in defence alongside centre-half Roy McFarland. In that first season, he helped Derby win the Second Division title, and played so well he shared the Footballer of the Year award with ManCity's Tony Book. In 1974/75 Derby won the Division 1 title under MacKay. He took over after the departure of Brian Clough.
