Ah, Gordon Smith. So close to scoring what could have been the winner. I think that Brighton brought out a fanzine which was called:  "And Smith Must Score."

Thankfully he didn’t score, would never of heard the last of it with all the Brighton Supporters at secondary school, many of whom went to Wembley, also we had nearly gone down to Division 3 that season, so it was an uncomfortable year at school, had the last laugh though, they lost the replay and went down, we built THAT team over the summer, invaded the Goldstone ground in Our thousands in the August and won div 2 come the following May, and the rest is history as they say, and 37 years later we are still talking about THAT team

. Gazette Football Italia
. Memories.  This programme was a ‘must watch ‘ on a Saturday morning with James Richardson  reading 'La Gazzetta' at a cafe on a square.

Title card from April 1995

The first live match shown was a 3–3 draw between Sampdoria and Lazio on 6thSeptember 1992, attracting three million UK viewers.
Gazzetta Football Italia, a highlights show, became the highest-rated Saturday morning program in Channel 4's history at the time, with around 800,000 viewers a week in its first season of 1992/93.

At its peak in the 1990s, Football Italia attracted over 3 million viewers, and remains the most watched programme in the UK about a non-British domestic football league.[

Presenter James Richardsonwas popular for his humour and his ability to avoid many of the clichesof football presenting.

Great programme to watch on a Saturday morning, before going off to play football, there also was a late Sunday night show called Mezanotti (Italian not my strong point) that rounded off the weekend

And a midweek highlights show, either Tuesday or Wednesday evening at about 10pm.

Many a team have striped kits, black and white striped kits could be Juve, Newcastle or Notts County, red and white could be Sunderland, Southampton or Brentford, blue and white could be Sheff weds, Brighton or Huddersfield, but red and black stripes or blue and black and it can only be AC Milan or Inter Milan, both iconic kits

Best World Cup in my eyes, probably something to do with my age and everything else going on at time, O to be 21 again, but just seemed to build and build through tournament, football became fashionable, from New Order and World in motion, Gazza mania and England’s exploits to semi finals. I feel this tournament was head and shoulders above euro 96 which sadly ruined football in my eyes, as the replica shirt wearing, theatre going tourists highjacked the game, and football became big bucks

A guy I know - he's a ST holder at Charlton - worked for a finance company at the time of Euro 96. His company was given complimentary tickets for some of the games. My mate had to take along one of the company's clients to a game. The client knew nothing about football so my mate rather than talking tactics, players etc had to explain rules and who was who. My mate wasn't very happy,

Here's a report on the game between Everton and Rangers.

No photo description available.

Rangers reached the semi-final in the 1886-1887 FA Cup. In the semi-final they were beaten 3-1 by the eventual winners, Aston Villa. Teams from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland (this was before the partition) took part in the competition.
