Selling old vinyl albums

Featured Replies

So I emptied out my old stuff from my parents loft a week ago as they were having the roof done, and I found a box of my old vinyl albums. Some erm....odd taste back then...erm...but I just want rid of them, some picture discs in amongst it, might be worth something. Anyone know any sites that would buy them?

There are record fairs around the country which buy and sell. Details at the link below. Hope it helps.

I've picked Vinyl up in the past off of eBay.  However, you've got to be careful.  I remember looking up the Sex Pistol's when they were on A&M (very rare) and eBay miraculously had about 10 of them - all a collectors edition release, not original.

Not sure that there's a specific vinyl trading site.

I'd also try and find a record collectors book.  I've one back in the UK, the name of which escapes me right now, but it was handy for looking into things like price, what the serial numbers should be, etc.

Best to sell locally i think, get yourself down to a car boot (loads coming up this time of year) and find a record seller and make him an offer he can't refuse.

May be worth looking at this site.

A guy I used to work with bought a copy of the Beatles' White Album in the late sixties. He swapped it for another record a couple of years later. In the nineties he read that the copy he had swapped was worth about £800. You may have some rarities in your collection.

Cheers lads, the record fair sounds a good idea. I've priced them up on a site called discogs, unfortunately nothing too exciting.

Buy a record deck and play the f**kers!

I still have shedloads of albums and about a 1000 classic singles for my jukebox.

Nothing beats vinyl for sound, but the ipod shuffle makes it easy to listen :)

Agree about nothing beats vinyl for sound. I have a few hundred records at home and when I can I buy new stuff on vinyl. I have two decks at home. One plays 33s and 45s; the other plays 78s.

Slightly off subject: a few weeks ago I read an article in a Hi-Fi magazine about a growing interest in cassettes. Cassettes were a great invention and were great for parties and listening to music in cars but the sound quality could be "suspect" especially the 120 tapes. Was at a Hi-fi show recently and there was a couple of reel to reel players. My parents had a couple - did a lot of recordings before cassette players and recorders came along. Keep meaning to copy the tapes down to CD or hard disk. Just need to find the right cables.

I have some software that enables you to manipulate the music after you download it.  I copied a load of cassettes a few years ago from a walkman to my PC with just a cable with a headphone socket on each end, and then cleaned it up a bit with the software. PM me if that might be handy :) ;)

awww bless.  I now have a mental image of little teenage dicky, in a time when he still had hair, in a satin jacket with shoulder-pads and white satin hot-pants, trying to create a merge dance between middle of the road rockers and Erasure and Soul II Soul

That's right tickled me on a dreary Monday afternoon!

Well, your wife did email me a few iffy VHS rips a while ago.  The sexy-time one was a bit silly, but I quite liked the dressing up as a tranny one - that was class.
