Chelsea Women - Everything Else!

Random aside - I’ve been pretty terrible at attending games this season. I can’t make it again Sunday because it’s the only time I can get a quite lucrative job done. If anyone wants to pop down to Kingsmeadow for a league game give me a shout!

Chelsea discover Women's FA Cup quarter-final opponents

Chelsea have been drawn at home against London City Lionesses or Tottenham Hotspur in the Women's FA Cup quarter-final.

We sealed our place in the last eight with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Manchester United after extra time at Kingsmeadow.

Substitute Sam Kerr broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, but the away side equalised through Simi Awujo to force an additional 30 minutes.

We sealed our victory when defender Naomi Girma netted the winner in the first half of the additional period and then defended resolutely for the rest of the contest to see out the win.

The quarter-final draw took place this evening and the Blues, the current holders and six-time winners of the trophy, have been drawn against the winners of London City Lionesses vs Tottenham Hotspur, which will take place later this evening.

Quarter-final ties will take place around the weekend of 4/5 April. Full fixture and ticket information will follow in due course.

Chelsea FC Women appoint new Sporting Director

Chelsea FC Women is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Radley as the women’s team Sporting Director.

Radley will take up his new position at Chelsea next month, following his departure from FC Nordsjaelland after a more than decade-long tenure at the Danish club.

In this new club position, Phil will play a central role in shaping the long-term direction of the women’s team, working in close partnership with Head Coach Sonia Bompastor, her technical staff and the club’s football leadership group.

Phil will help drive the team’s sporting vision, building on the strong progress made under Sonia’s leadership.

He will lead the continued development of the women’s football programme, aligning performance strategy, squad planning and succession planning to ensure sustained competitiveness at the highest level. He will also oversee player recruitment, contracts and all negotiations with players’ agents and representatives, helping to build and maintain a high-performance environment capable of delivering consistent success.

On his appointment to the new role, Phil Radley said:

‘I’m very proud to be joining Chelsea FC Women. This is a team filled with talent and tenacity, that has an incredible record of success and an exciting future. I look forward to working closely with Sonia, the players and the rest of the football staff across the club to play a part in writing the next chapter of this club’s great success story.’

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart said:

‘We’re delighted to welcome Phil to Chelsea FC Women. He brings a wealth of experience and will play an important role in supporting Sonia and her staff and building on the winning culture of the women's team to help drive them forward to continued success.’

The last league game of the season will be at the Bridge on Saturday, 16 May with a 1pm kick-off. Same day as the FA Cup Final so if the men get to the final could be a rush to get to Wembley. If they don't they'll be at the Bridge on Sunday 17 May. So could be two games on the same day or two games in consecutive days.

WSL confirm details for final day of the current season p...

It was horrible to see her go off a minute or so after she had come on to the pitch. As others have written, a shame. Bjorn is a great defender and formed a great central defensive partnership with Millie.

There has been debate about leadership and captaincy of the men's team but if you look at the women's team I can think of a few who can be captain and would be assisted in leading by others. A few names that spring to mind are Bright, Bronze, Walsh, Cuthbert, Buchanan and Bjorn. I'm sure that others can suggest other names.

Manchester United losing to City today was not exactly unexpected, but nevertheless very helpful to our Champions League qualification bid, albeit we are (only temporarily I hope) down to 4th and out of the CL places after Arsenal walloped Tottenham to climb up to 2nd.

Need a good win against Villa tomorrow !

The semi-final of the Women's FA Cup will be played at Stamford Bridge. Date and time of the game still to be decided.
