May 19, 20215 yr In the last week I've read few rumours about Tuchel targeting Verratti for the next season. He played under him in PSG, he seems like a type of a player that Tuchel will be looking for. He's experienced in European football, he's aggressive enough to match himself in the PL. He's not a player that scoring goals, not sure about his assist stats as well. He's also 28 years old, in November will be 29. Of course it will depends on our business with our players, we have 4 CM's now, 5 with Mount. If we will push for another midfielder, we might see someone leaving. And the last player we want to see leaving is Kante, we can't give up on the best defensive midfielder in the world. Can Verratti offer us something different? Is he worth to keep an eye on him? Your opinion!
May 19, 20215 yr "Poor man's Kovacic" I mean he's good but we have Kovacic, GIlmour already, Verratti would be the 3rd short player to run with the ball, unless he's going to be more disciplined and play deeper like Jorginho. For me we need a DM to sit back and not Verratti but maybe I'm wrong, whatever Tuchel wants I guess...
May 19, 20215 yr Buy Franck Kessie instead, who has only 1 year left on his contract. 12 goals and 4 assists from DM/CM position.

Which says a lot since I think extremely high of Kova! I watched almost all PSG games under Tuchel and Verratti is just an amazing player who'd strengthen every team there is. Just hypothetical speaking since I don't believe PSG would sell nor do I think Chelsea really puts in the effort to sign him since I totally agree that there are other areas that would be needed to be addressed in the squad: imho Verratti is defensively better than Kova at least due to his agressiveness (also kinda his weak point though as he's quite hot headed) and eventually a tad bit better with his dribblings (both on the highest level tho). I say there is hardly anybody better than him to link between deep defensive play and offensive. KdB eventually but he plays higher up the pitch compared to Verratti (under Tuchel mind, from what little I saw under Poch I would say TT used him better). If a midfield of Verratti/Kova or especially Verratti/Kanté (<3 - that's what Tuchel always wanted for PSG) could work, not sure about the first, without losing our defensive grip and compactness I'd say we could benefit quite a bit because that could mean Mount wouldn't have to drop that deep to help bringing the ball forward since Verratti does that himself. Hence we have potentially one attacking player further up the pitch who should help tremendously in conversing mor of our chances. I don't see that happening though - and he's awfully often injured. I'd rather sign Marquinhos 😄 Edited May 19, 20215 yr by weetee
May 19, 20215 yr If we’re to sign a midfielder I would want a defensive dominating midfielder like rice or locatelli. Verratti is quality but similar to kova and Gilmour who we already own. I guess it depends on formations next season but if it’s a midfield 2 and we sign rice then we have kante, rice, kova and Gilmour and that’s if Jorginho does leave which is more balanced than signing verratti.
