Johanna Rytting Kaneryd signs Chelsea contract extension

Chelsea is delighted to announce Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has signed a contract extension with the Blues, penning a deal which will run until the summer of 2027. The 28-year-old joined Chelsea from BK Hacken in August 2022 and has enjoyed a hugely successful three years as a Blue. Chelsea have won the Women’s Super League every season during Rytting Kaneryd’s time with us, as well as two FA Cups and a League Cup.

The Sweden international surpassed 100 appearances for the Blues in March and is relishing the prospect of adding to that tally over the next two years.

Rytting Kaneryd said: ‘It feels amazing to have signed a new contract with Chelsea. I am delighted to extend my time here because I really do love this place. Since the first day I stepped into this club, it has felt like home.

'It is my first time living away from Sweden and this really does feel like home. I love going to work every day and I couldn’t have asked for a better place to be. I am someone who is always striving to improve and I know there is much more to come from me in the future.’

Rytting Kaneryd played in 21 of our 22 WSL games this season, scoring five league goals as we secured an unbeaten domestic campaign. That form has also translated onto the international stage and in December she received the Diamond Ball, given to Sweden’s best female footballer during the previous year.

Paul Green, Chelsea’s head of women’s football, said: ‘Johanna has played an important part in our success since joining the club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. She has been among our highest appearance makers in the previous two seasons. We are looking forward to seeing Johanna continue to progress with us in the forthcoming years.'

Everyone at Chelsea would like to congratulate Johanna on her new deal and we look forward to watching her continue to excel in blue during the years to come.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd: What Chelsea means to me

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has signed a new two-year contract extension with the Blues and here the winger talks in her own words about why she loves our club so much..

I have said it before and I will say it again: I really do love this club – everything about it – so to have the opportunity to sign a contract extension until 2027, well it’s fair to say I am buzzing! 

It was such an easy decision when the talks about a new contract first started. I never had any doubts about wanting to stay. 

When I moved to Chelsea three years ago, it was the first time I had moved away from Sweden and I really didn’t know what to expect. But from the very first time I stepped into this club; it has felt like home. I was made to feel a part of this very special family from day one. 

I felt at home from day one

And that is what we are: we are a big family. The players and staff are such a nice group of people and I love coming to work every day. I literally couldn’t have asked for a better place to be. I am not just playing alongside great players; they are also great people. 

The fact I get to live out my dreams alongside my best friend, Nathalie [Bjorn], makes it even more special. We have known each other for around eight years and became best friends when we started playing alongside each other at Rosengard in Sweden in 2018. So when she joined Chelsea 18 months ago, it was like my life was complete! She is like family to me and I don’t take that opportunity for granted.

In March I made my 100th appearance for this great club and I couldn’t be prouder. They say time flies when you are having fun and that has certainly been the case. 

For my century to arrive in that Manchester City win at Stamford Bridge was even more special. Those games at the Bridge have such a nice atmosphere and victories like City and Arsenal this season are among some of my favourite memories as a Blue. 

It has been a long season but I am someone who always strives to be a better player and a better person so I will continue to work hard every day to improve, and I know there is a lot more to come from me. 

I started off this season well but there were also challenges at times. Football is like that but I am up for any challenge which comes my way and next season I want to be scoring even more goals, provide more assists and being more direct in my play.  

There is even more to come from me in the coming years!

We lifted three trophies this season but next year we want to lift even more! Everyone at this club loves to win and I am no different. It is one of the main reasons why we are so successful. 

I couldn’t put together an article like this without mentioning our incredible fans. I don’t think I can put into words what you all mean to me but I will try!

Throughout all our ups and downs, you are always there for us and so supportive. I think I speak on behalf of all the players when I say we can’t thank you enough. We play for you, our fans, and we want to do everything in our power to make you all happy so when we manage to do that, it makes all of the hard work so worth it. 

I already can’t wait for next season and I can wait to see you all again. Make sure you are ready because I know I have much more to give in a Chelsea shirt, so you better watch out for Jojo 2.0, and you better watch out for this Chelsea team!
