October 5, 20232 yr It's also evident that Brighton are missing Caicedo and MacAllister. Unsurprisingly.

I've seen Brighton's tactics called " baiting the press" where they f**k around at the back inviting the press forward then play through it. I honestly don't think my nerves could stand it we tried that !

Yeah, that sums it up well, they seem to purposely delay passes to suck an opposition player or 2 into a challenge, the break into the space behind them. As you say it would be nerve wracking to watch.

De Zerbi's system seems to rely on the opposition pressing way too high up the pitch, which then opens up gaps they exploit with their overlapping runs. Villa did it to them too, Brighton simply couldn't break them down once Villa sat back after going ahead and the goals came from pretty much the situation you described. I felt very vindicated watching that match. The test facing De Zerbi now is whether he can adapt his style or come up with a plan B for when sides refuse to press them. Obviously much easier said than done, especially mid-season.
October 6, 20232 yr Marseilles were disciplined in the first half last night, standing off Brighton, not falling for the pressing trap. Brighton struggled, resorting to hoofing it, and some dreadful defending letting in two goals. As the game wore on, Marseilles forgot their discipline, tried going toe-to-toe without sufficient quality. Brighton escaped.

What happen if the opp start respecting you and 0-0 is a good result for them.
