Posted June 28, 200717 yr No great surprise there - good to see that Real Madrid, although finally arresting their slide form a football perspective, are still a totally ludicrous club in terms of the way it is run. I know a lot of people are linking Wenger woith the job but I can't see it - I don't see a job where you are hamstrung in terms of who you buy, hamstrung in terms of what you are expected to achieve, and how you achieve it, and hamstrung in terms of the team's tactics being one that appeals to Wenger at all. I would iamgine he would rather extend at Arsenal then go to Real Madrid (now watch him sign within the week)
June 28, 200717 yr There are not many 'big name' manager's out of work at the moment. If you think our club was badly run last season just look at their's, It just goes to show Madrid have sh1t for brains!
June 28, 200717 yr It's not a big surprise but it still make me wonder if there's any brains at all in Real Madrid. The club is not performing well, Capello arrives, makes the team work harder and fight to win, they get the first big title for a few years and they go and sak him? Okay, so he doesn't make the team play amazingly beautiful football, but they get the wins and also a title. If Capello would have stayed and got some money for the right players (according to Capello) Real Madrid could have been on it's way toward a new era of greatness. Now they might fall and crumble.
June 28, 200717 yr Wenger for Real Arsenal down the tubes I honestly think the Real job is a toss up between Hoddle, Keegan and Paul Jewell falls off chair laughing
June 28, 200717 yr Mac out cap in!!! Madrid may as well not bother putting that trophy in the cabinet, just drop it straigt round to barca now... do they really lack the understanding that the one thing that stopped barca this season was cap!!
June 28, 200717 yr The Moos: It's not a big surprise but it still make me wonder if there's any brains at all in Real Madrid. No there aren't. Never has been. The club is not performing well, Capello arrives, makes the team work harder and fight to win, they get the first big title for a few years and they go and sak him? If in doubt - SACK. If in no doubt - SACK. Hell just SACK. Okay, so he doesn't make the team play amazingly beautiful football, but they get the wins and also a title. If Capello would have stayed and got some money for the right players (according to Capello) Real Madrid could have been on it's way toward a new era of greatness. Now they might fall and crumble. Capello was spot on in his ideas as far as I can see. He had started to kick out the big star players who he felt were causing ructions, he was winning games, not beautifully but he was winning. With a few canny buys in the right areas for next season, he could have probably played more expansive football (not hysterically so because he's not that type of manager) and won them something again. You wait, this time next year, they will have sacked the latest coach, be making overtures to Jose (who is very much like Capello in style and judgement ironically) and telling their fans that they need to be back to their winning ways and play more sturdy and pragmatic football.....it does make you wonder if the lunatics are in charge of the asylum over there. Their stupidity and their loss at sacking Capello. Meanwhile he can walk aware reputation enhanced and stick two fingers up to them in the process. Hope he joins a club who end up tipping them out of the CL next season.

Imagine Capello in charge of Lyon and he sends Real Madrid out from the Champions League quite early beating them 2-0 (home and away). That would be great.

To ape Keegan...I would love it! Absolutely love it! Real Madrid's inherent crass stupidity in the way they run their club (if anyone complains about Chelsea at times, I always say look at Madrid first) positively begs them to get a damn good whipping on a regular basis. I did hear that Capello was planning on retiring within the next few years - don't do it Fabio! Stay and get your revenge! Great coach, proved his worth by winning almost everywhere and doesn't give a sh*t what the media, presidents or big name players think about his style and tactics - he wins period. Reminds me of Jose in many ways.
June 29, 200717 yr I think Capello was going to leave anyway and Real merely did a pre-emptive strike so they wouldn't look as bad. Not that this makes them look any good, mind.
June 29, 200717 yr Enrico: "I think Capello was going to leave anyway and Real merely did a pre-emptive strike so they wouldn't look as bad. Not that this makes them look any good, mind." Enrico - 2 things: First, Capello had 2 years left on his contract - if he resigns he'd not be contractually entitled to the further 2 years pay. So if you're speculation is right - Cappello decided that some principle was worth more than say $4-6 million euros: somewhat unlikely mate. And even if that was the case why didn't Cappello resign some 10 days ago ? Secondly, if Real were thinking that by sacking him early they wouldn't look as bad - how does, as you later admit, this make the Real Board look somehow less bad. They look and deserve to look like complete idiots - I mean who (being a top drawer manager) in their right mind (including Wenger) would even consider going to Madrid now. You'd have to be on some incredible contract stacked totally towards the front - say $8-10 million euros for the first year (upfront) even to consider it.
June 29, 200717 yr Capello seems to be really straight shooting type. Real Madrid is old and most of all traditional club with traditional hierarchy. They do things and see things the way they've always done. Maybe they(cap vs. board) had different views on how Real Madrid should play. When big egos like Capello and Mijatovic clash it isn't pretty. Capello is oldschool Italian type of coach. Plays through defence. Plays winning football with "1-0 is enough" in mind. The board has its own view on how Real Madrid game looks like. It should define the beautiful game and still be winning... ..well Capello just delivered the other. I really actually expected this to happen. They got the domestic championship. People again recognize Real Madrid as a major club. They have really good base again to start the next season BUT they don't see Capello giving them entertainment, flair and drama in the future. That is why he is out. And I don't see Mijatovic the most diplomatic person in the world. When he still played he seemed like he could start a fight in an empty locker room...Having said that I really miss those kind of players. You never know what is going to happen in the pitch.
June 29, 200717 yr Firstly Capello was reported during the season to have said he would resign even if they won the title. Secondly the Real board have always acted like idiots so it's nothing special for them. To be able to say "I dumped him" rather than "he dumped me" is justification enough. It's "less bad" to them.
June 29, 200717 yr The next Real Madrid's manager will be Bern Schuster. In Spain he is said to be the next Real Madrid manager since a lot of months.
June 29, 200717 yr I think getafe will now make some noise (rightly I think) about schuster being tapped up.
