Scott
He's tall He's Czech He keeps an empty net.......................Petr Cech! I've finally let go of Carlo (something to think about Val). I was really hurt when the best keeper in England was replaced by this young upstart from the Czech Republic. I've always identified with goalkeepers for some strange reason, yet I just could not warm up to Petr. Well this season I'm backing Big Pete Ladies and Gents I give you the Chelsea FC #1. AAF
Although he is really better than Cudicini at overall goalkeeping, he is completely helpless at penalties. For me it is surprising that such a great keeper is so bad at it. The only one I remember that he saved was against Dick ov when he set the record. In other times I do not beliebe in him that he will save a penalty.
SydneyChelsea
It's surprising, since most of his childhood he was a hockey goalkeeper!
goose
I have to agree that Cech is a fantastic goalkeeper and I wouldn't replace him with anyone. However I think sometimes he's too much the gentleman for the position he plays. You cannot question his bravery, as we've seen many times and that clout on the head he got last year does not seen to have had an affect, but unlike many keepers who are prepared to leave the boot in, or high (van der prick last week against Sweepie) he prefers to concentrate on winning the ball fairly and squarely. I'm not saying I want to see Cech go out and purposely injure opponents but maybe they would think twice about the next challenge against him if he was to shake them up a bit. As far as penalties go I would like to see him doing a bit of gamesmanship like querying the ball not being spotted right or kicking his boots out against the post. anything to delay the spot kick and maybe make the taker a bit more uncomfortable. loz
Not me Goose, I admire the fact that Cech doesn't resort to all that nonsense - the fact that nearly everyone else does is, for me, not a reason that Cech should - it just makes him even more admirable

But yes Carlo was a better out and out shot stopper.

Most Professional footballers would be able, on the training ground to place penalties which were unstoppable 9 times out of 10. The difference in the match situation is the pressure. If Cech were to exert a little bit of extra pressure on the taker I am all on for it. It's not cheating, more like sledging in cricket.

He should check out a vid of Dudek in the CL final between L'fool and Milan. That's the way to distract the opponents. Not cheating really but very effective.
